Well last night I headed off to some Aussie Day pre-celebrations in London. Got a good laugh at the drunken antics of some.

I drank a few VB's, and realised why I haven't drunk any in quite a while. Yuck!

I'm thinking about heading out again tomorrow to celebrate some more, but with a 4am (latest) wake-up call on Wed to catch a flight, it will either be a stay out all night and straight to the airport (but what to do with my bag?) or heading home early after moderating booze intake.

As my trip is to Asia (or rather the Far East as it is called over here), I then have the dilemma of what to do with my thick coat while travelling... lots of fun.

Obviously you have better internet than I have in downtown Burrill Lake where I am lucky if one window opens. Gotta love living on the wrong side of a hill in a small town!

If our uni didn't have a decent internet connection (read: a fast and consistent one), we'd be stuffed.

There's a modicum (or a bit more) of chaos and frustration during the (hopefully) rare times that our network or internet at work goes down. No one can really do anything, and in the case of the network going down almost everyone is pretty much paralysed (loss of access to shared drives, personal network space, Exchange....)

I love it how you oft quote yourself as doing something (or rather not doing something) at the expense of an early start to catch a flight. :)

IIRC the flight to SIN departs at around 1130h or so. That means getting to airport at 0830h which means leaving home at around 0700h (conservative guess!)....how does 0400h wake up fit this?

The other alternative is that you're going via HEL or something like that, in which case I understand.

It's times like these you wish that some lounges had a slumber area.

Are you travelling without checked bags?

Dead weight? I know that feeling.

At least you might be able to use the pockets if you need to sneak more weight.

It is a constant battle for me ... should I/shouldn't I - especially since I keep booking early morning flights the morning after I tend to want to do something... (Why do I do that????). Although it's pretty safe to guess that I'll be out somewhere tomorrow around some Aussies.

Yeah, up through HEL. So 7:30 depart ex LHR, which equates to 1:45 on buses to get to LHR, or a bit less using bus+Heathrow express.

So to be there by 6:15am, need to leave by 4:30ish at the latest. Hence why an early wakeup!

The other option is to arrange a mini-cab, which would take between 30 and 50 mins from where I live... but the buses work relatively fine - even at that type of stupid hour of the morning and I prefer not to catch mini-cabs where possible.

Planning on carry-on only, which is why the coat is particularly frustrating. I have 5 different hotel stays, plus a night where I'm not planning accom... so lugging it around isn't that easy.

Wouldn't the mini-cab option actually save you needing to take such a heavy coat.

Possibly. Depends on the company. It's a backup option rather than one I want to use though.

One thing i have noticed (as you would also do Mal but the other way around) is the need to take a whole lot less stuff in summer than winter! I can pack a backpack for a week in summer but need a suitcase for winter!

Anyone know of a sale on for flights to LAX anytime soon? Need them around mid august at this stage. Is there a usual (yearly) sale on soon?

Well, the house is dry and having just fulfilled what I agreed to, driving my sister home from a surf club, I think I might head to the hotel bar and knock back some rum and cokes.

Unless he arrives back to another ice age ;)
Like my arrival into MEL this evening. Captain said the expected temp was 17 degrees! It was more than that when I left Hong Kong this morning . Isn't Australia Day supposed to be the middle of summer for Melbourne?

And the 5-star hotel I live next to closed their bar today. I realise it’s a public holiday, but I don’t think RACV understands what a 5-star hotel is!

A neighbour gave me a beer and I had a cheap pizza instead.

But it’s Melbourne, surely it rained, snowed, blew a gale, and sweltered in the 40’s. You just missed it :p

The Mill was closed well before 9:00pm. A lot of yobbos hanging around the city making fools of themselves. I went to work instead and will have a day off in lieu for my trip to Thailand in June. I will also work Labour Day and hoping the boss let's me work on Anzac Day holiday which means I will only need 6 days of annual leave for a 2 week holiday.

Good neighbour's are hard to find.

Try DPO-gets down to 10-12 most nights and last week one night was 5:shock::shock:

I think I'm ending up here this afternoon: What's On at Jetlag

Not for the movies, but for the Boags (mmm!) and perhaps some Kangaroo if I can find a table...

Quoting myself again ... why does it happen so often? :)

I did go to the Jet Lag pub, and generally enjoyed myself. I headed downstairs to their lounge and watched most of 'Puberty Blues" and "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" despite my original objections to watching those movies.

The Boags was very nice - even at ~$A7.50/bottle. I really do miss certain Australian beers like Boags. Cascade and Coopers. Some are available in the UK, but availability in pubs is limited.

The Kangaroo dish was great. ~$A27 for sliced Kangaroo, spiced/crumbed mushrooms, several large prawns, potato wedges/salad, avocado dip etc. The Kangaroo was a little tough, even though it was medium rare - but expected based on the meat type, and I presume the treatment it had on the way over.

In the pub they have a couple of Airline J seats... I was wracking my brain trying to work out where they came from - but presume BA or a similar EU type airline.

I have a grainy photo, but will resist posting it.

Only 8 hours until I'm awake again and heading off to Heathrow!

Really stinks!

There’s a few good and a load bad around here.

I do it quite often myself.

Have a good trip!

Try doing work in any volunteer organisation for any length of time. As soon as someone makes a decision, all sorts comes out of the woodwork.

Well you’ve just put me off volunteering my time to get work experience :p

Absolutely stinking hot on the Gold Coast right now. Just had a short 10 minute walk outside around the block and the sweat was beginning to pour off me. :(
