Woo hoo

Cash it. They'd have to give you 5 cents. Instant profit :)

I can't figure whether its 6 months or 12 months on the cheque validity; I always thought it was 12 months; but the internet search is not conclusive.

For some reason I have major trouble writing trip reports; any idea how to start writing them, or should I just give up as a lost cause and don't bother.

Only if it's made out to cash, which it wouldn't be.

Indeed. It is made out to my name and crossed 'not negotiable'.

Of course, a 'not negotiable' crossing doesn't stop the cheque being used to settle a debt, but it's just silly because then the merchant receiving the cheque bears the full financial risk.

Seeing as I haven't made a deposit to the account in over a year, CBA closed the account and then sent me a cheque for the closing balance of the account.
Hooray more power for the banks. I did not think that a bank would close an account without getting your approval first.

Ahh, like the 50c or so that it cost them to post the cheque to you!

You're completely forgetting to account for all the worker-time costs :!:

I'm not of the opinion that this entire process from trigger to postage of letter could have been completed by a robot.

I guess if it's any consolation, the low balance in the account has very much led them to a fool's errand.

Normally Friday is a great day for anyone, but today was bloody exceptional. Its not often in workplace history that you survive longer than a cough boss - and my dream finally came true.

The guy who's spent the better part of the last 12mths trying to shaft me and make my lift as difficult as possible has been shown the door. He'll say that he was surprised that his redundancy came through so fast, but those of us in the know that a whole ton of people with influence over the redundancy process, and have a great dislike for him, conspired to get him out of the building as soon as humanly possible.

I also lost count of the number of people looking forward to his departure, reinforced by the GM's Executive PA making a large number of off-the-cuff and derogatory comments about the man. Plus my Psych was over the moon knowing one of the key causes of some of my health issues in the last year is no more - giving me two high fives and beaming a massive smile with the prick departure.

I think this observation overheard in the hallways today from this guy sums it up well:

"Everyone seems to be walking in the opposite direction to me today".

Just today? Totally oblivious to the views and opinions of everyone about him.

Right, that's my catharsis over.

I can't figure whether its 6 months or 12 months on the cheque validity; I always thought it was 12 months; but the internet search is not conclusive.

I thought it was an odd figure somewhere between one and two years. I'm assuming it's a standard in the industry and does not vary between banks.

For the major part of my life I have not been a likeable sort of person and it became more evident yesterday, and somewhat embarassing, when it was the secretary's last day at work and she came into our office and she hugged and kissed everybody and all I got was "Goodbye John" from a distance with my back turned. I turned around and wished her luck for the future.

I giuess I should be happy I got a goodbye from her at all. :(

Haha.

Loved the other story too, about Conan and his $1.5 million sketch!
Had the pleasure of watching, pure gold the Bugatti Veyron Mouse sketch.

Seen the other crazy expensive sketches? Kentucky Derby winning horse dressed in a Mink snuggie watching restricted NFL footage (4m+). And a fossil purchased from the Smithsonian spitting caviar at a Picasso painting. Priceless case of up yours to NBC.

Oh, and I can't repeat what Adam Sandler said NBC stands for in these parts. Let's just say it referred to a part of the body Jennifer Love Hewitt recently covered in crystals and leave it at that.

Had to go to youtube for those videos. Brilliant!

I can’t believe people actually thought they were real though.

Wednesday: $1.5 million
Thursday: $4.8 million
Friday: $65 million

And of course his total severance package, plus that for his staff, $45 million.

NBC is really stupid.

Saw Up In The Air at the cinemas yesterday. The last movie I saw in a cinema was the latest Bond movie Quantum of Solace; before that, the last movie was six years ago.

Bundy Bear came along to ease his withdrawals after seeing it the first time a week earlier.

Now if you're a sensitive type like serfty, then "here be spoilers". Highlight using your mouse if you want to see the detail:

An entertaining piece - it really stereotypes the frequent flyer to the nth degree. An example quote (this is on IMDB, so no spoilers really here):

Ryan Bingham: [on getting through airport security] [stares at a line with a family with two kids and a stroller] Never get behind people travelling with infants. I've never seen a stroller collapse in less than twenty minutes. [stares at a line with an elderly couple]Old people are worse. Their bodies are littered with hidden metal and they never seem to appreciate how little time they have left. [stares at a line with a couple of Middle Eastern men] Five words: Randomly selected for additional screening. [stares at a line with two Asian businessmen] Bingo, Asians. They pack light, travel efficiently, and they have a thing for slip on shoes. Gotta love 'em.
Natalie Keener: That's racist.
Ryan Bingham: I'm like my mother, I stereotype. It's faster.

(note this is the line verbatim from the movie; yes it is technically discriminatory, but I'm just quoting the line and not condoning nor condemning it) When that line was raised, I had to laugh and say to Bundy Bear aside, "They obviously haven't met QF009"

In the end, I have to admit some envy for the lifestyle of Ryan Bingham, but one day I'll have to stop flying substantially to have a family (and probably keep my marriage in good health, unless I marry a mileage runner / status addict :D ... a man can dream!). Of course, I would never want a job - even with all the flying paid for - that involves having to fire people on behalf of bosses who are too chicken **** to do it themselves; whoever concocted such a sadistic occupation....

P.S. DO NOT quote this post! You know very well why....

Thanks ... NOT!:evil::evil::evil:

I have not seen the film, nor I guess quite a few others.

You should at least post a "SPOILER ALERT" before posting such.

That's the end of this thread for me for a while ...:evil::evil:

I don't think what I posted was much more than what you see in a trailer. The fact that it was on IMDB and not covered up in spoilers is also telling. Finally, what you see in the movie does not compare to what you can find even if you read the blurb, rooted out the script or perused the plot summary on Wikipedia (and I did all three of those before seeing it yesterday and I still feel much more satisfied having seen it than just reading it). I'd almost wager that the content of my post is similar to something spouted by a movie reviewer, a journalist reviewing the movie or connecting it to (say) Flyertalk, or, even then, Flyertalk itself.

Sorry if that's still too much - feel free to moderate my post to the minimum. Or even more to the point - go see the movie!

I have to admit being much taken aback by your reaction.....

Serfty I thought you would have been one of the first people to see it, you will like it; and you will like it enough to point out the errors.
