The house is on a golf course, so my dad has his own golf buggy for playing golf in. It’s also useful for driving around the resort though, instead of using the car.

Oh really?

I wonder if you were the house whose window I broke when I hit my ball out of bounds?

:p

Just kidding. :D

Well I am now in HEL... -20 outside apparently, and we landed at a remote gate. BRRRR!

Lucky you brought the coat!

A bit sadistic that they make you walk in the -20 degC, especially if you've arrived with not enough layers and/or shoes definitely not designed for walking on ice.

I remember that when we got remote gates at the old KUL airport, MH used to provide umbrellas to get to the shuttle/terminal if it were raining. I'd doubt HEL/AY would provide overcoats :p

The countryside and airport looks amazing though being completely covered in white.

+1, nothing like flying over a majestically snow covered country - looks absolutely beautiful.

The new Finnair lounge in HEL lives up to its reputation on Flyertalk - visually great, but lacking serious substance.

So I've heard - seen a couple of photos and the 360 degree virtual tour on oneworld but I guess you have to be there to enjoy the ambiance. Almost seems like it has that IKEA feel to it.... also looks a bit small on the virtual tour.

One brand of tap beer, plus tap wine. Other beers, champagnes and spirits can be purchased.

LOL tap wine!

Can't believe you have to buy the rest. Licensing laws, perhaps? Or just stingy?

Food is very basic too - similar fare to a domestic Qantas Club around lunchtime. Finnair really could have done better.

Right, so little sandwiches and a few bits and bobs (cheese, nuts, fruit, various antipasti and odd salads). Perhaps a soup on the boil.

Mind you, HKG QF/BA J Lounge didn't put on any (or much) better spread than that during "lunch" time.

I’d say you’d have to have an extremely bad swing to break a window in this house. We are behind the tee to a par 3, with a lake separating the course from the house, so you’d need to hit backwards a fair bit ;)

If you come see the Ladies Masters in Feb/March, I’d be happy to have anyone over for a beer.

Reminds me of the movie The Snowman!

Any mulled wine? I’d expect that to be free :p

You live on a golf course? So can you sneak on and have a game of golf without anyone noticing?

I don't think I am in Brisbane that weekend. Would have been gone to go out and watch some of the ladies golf.

Certain yearly golf packages come with free afternoon golf. We used to just drive onto the course in the late afternoon and play 8 or 9 holes till too dark, but we don’t have that package anymore as my dad is hardly here. We do get discounted rates I think.

You wouldn’t want to play with me though, if the ball ends up somewhere I don’t like, I simply pick it up and put it where it should have landed ;)

It’ll be on channel 10 as usual I think ;) ;)

Only a quick walk - down a set of covered stairs, then about 2 meters to the bus.

The lounge is very Ikea furniture inspired, although I suspect the furniture cost a lot more than Ikea equivalents. It is reasonable sized. 80 seats perhaps, including some great recliners.

Another bad point about the lounge is that the windows arent protected by sunshades etc, and the sun is very low and strong at the moment ...

Apparently the lounge isn't owned by Finnair, but rather a third party. Also there is a spa here, but that is only free for Finnair Plats (not even longhaul J gets access for free!). Explains a lot about the cheapness...

Food is ham, cheese, a type of curry, salady things, bread rolls, cucumber, fruit etc etc. There is a soup as well.

Oh, and didn't see any mulled wine ;)

Also, there are only 3 computers. No printers. All Apples as per the new trend for lounges.

So you play every round in par or better then? :p

I’ve learnt from uni that suggesting anything IKEA to a Finnish person generally ends with a bad reaction :p

I might cheat, but I still get double-bogeys :p

You got to do better than that if you are going to have mulligans and free drops where you think your ball should have landed! ;)
Nothing like the old hand-wedge to speed up one's round. (Generally more accurate than the Foot-iron as well):p

NM's idea to fall into the pool sounds good.................
And a nice dip it was too. Missed the pool while working too hard in Hong Kong. Its good to be back. Now the air conditioner is being installed in the office today, so that should help. It was certainly hot walking Mini NM#4 to her first day of school (prep) this morning.

Apple has finally introduced the new tablet computer, called the iPad.

I'm of two minds about it - it would be nice for watching movies on a plane and having a light computing type device for when I'm travelling - but would it end up being worth the $$? Not sure.

Talking of golf, does anyone know where the Jack Newton Classic is now held ? (If it still is)
It started up here at the Noosa/Tewantin Club, then moved to Novotel Twin Waters at Mudjimba for a long time, then one season here at Peregian Springs Club, since then I taint heard hair nor hide of it..............

Cheers Dee

Apple has finally introduced the new tablet computer, called the iPad.

I want to know whether security will require us to remove our iPads from our bags for scanning like laptops, or if they can stay inside like iPods.

As for pricing, I've paid more for an iPod for the same purpose - at $500, this would be ideal for media consumption (and even some creation) or email/browsing while travelling (at least by land or on airlines without decent IFE). Will definitely give the netbook market a run for its money.

I do, but I’m undecided if I could survive with the wifi-only version or if I’d need a data plan. I have time to decide though, seeing as it’s not coming here till June/July anyway.

It is lacking a few features that I’d hoped to see. As usual the rumour mill has be wanting what wasn’t to be.

It’s not as full featured as I though, but then again I could see myself in a class, taking notes somewhere with it resting on my lap and using Pages or Notes. The email app looks really good, and the photos app is pretty impressive too.

Just hate the name - sounds like an electronic feminine hygeine product.......

Thanks, wasn’t even thinking that but I might now!

Wouldn’t worry me if they did. No need to remove a battery, fairly easy to just add it to a tray and walk off using it on the other side.
