I also have some very bad news from the penegal clan.

My grandmother and the matriarch of our family passed away yesterday, aged 97.

We obviously knew it was coming, but I'm still extremely upset. (There may have been tears on a flight today).

Fortunately it seemed to be relatively quick and painless. She was sitting up in the chair watching the evening news and took an awkward breath, then it was all over. She had been suffering a chest infection for the past week, but it did seem to be stabilising.

She lived in her own house to the end. Outlived her husband by 25 years, and two of her children. Worked in a factory in the war, and married a sailor during the war (my grandfather - Pop actually lied about his age to enlist early and serve his country... Try finding a young person with that kind of patriotism in this day and age).

She was a fiercely independent, proud, strong woman with great love and generosity for her family. She will be dearly missed.

Sad news penegal but if I could wish it that's the way I'd want to go.

I think every young man lied about their age during WWI. My grandpa was 17.

Very sorry to hear that penegal. She sounded like she had experienced a full life and was a very strong person. As you say, although you knew it was something that would come, it makes it no less hard or sad when it does. Condolences to the whole family.

sorry to hear that - sounds like she had a wonderful full life, but it doesn't make it an easier to say goodbye.

Condolences Bindibuys and penegal!

We are all getting to the stage where the people around us are old. Life is short.

So, now we are looking for a unicorn - 800mm wide gas gas* oven so that an old broken oven doesn't turn into multiple tens of thousands in kitchen renos. Or shoddy work on one side of the oven.

Any recommendations?
*Anyone know why gas-electric ovens are so popular? Allegedly Queenslanders are afraid of gas ovens?

I'm coming in late I know but this might be helpful....

A quick search showed The Goody Guys have five different 80cm gas/gas ovens.
