If I'm driving down a road at the prescribed speed and a pedestrian steps out in front of me, and I hit them, that's not my fault. I don't have "the right" to hit them, but I certainly wouldnt be found at fault.

Agree. Which is why I included the 'in the situation you describe'... which was that if someone decided to stand in the middle of a lane of traffic against the green light Puska thought it would be hard to see how the pedestrian is in the right. In that case it doesn't matter if the pedestrian is in the wrong... nothing drivers can do about it (except report it to the police).

Try walking across the road in Vietnam. Walk straight ahead. Do not hesitate. Do not deviate. And the motorcycles part to let you through.
The first time I braved crossing the road in Hanoi I was so impressed with how the motorbikes dealt with my deliberate stride, that when I got to the other side I turned around and strode back again!

Yeah you would do that wouldn't you! . It was Hanoi I was specifically thinking of.

In Bangkok I always try to cross with a local, my rationale being that the vehicle driver will try to miss either the Farang or the local. :p So far so good.

Many years ago in Harbin China, it was about -30 degrees and I was trying to cross a nine lane road to get to the Ice Show. A little old lady saw me and took me by the hand and got me across the road. She then asked me to buy the neck warmer she was selling at her stall. For about AUD$1 it was a cheap way to get across the road.

A few hours later she saw me on the other side of the road wearing the neck warmer and came across to bring me back to safety. No extra charge.

No, but in Italy the driver would be watching and just drive around the pedestrian rather than scoring extra points. :)

John Oliver informs us about Traffic crossing Zebras in Bolivia.

Stress levels just went through the roof. Just checked Master FM's bookings (he is due to fly home in less than 3 weeks from SFO for Ms FM's wedding) and there was nothing in his FF account. Fortunately thought to check some other accounts and all those bookings have vanished as well. Clearly a Qantas problem, so going to sleep and hopefully in the morning all will be restored!

Currently sitting in World of Coke, where I'm told I can taste test 100 varieties.

Definitely a QF problem

First night in a week that I've slept more than 2 h.

Feeling more human again. The body wasn't about to take more stress.

Similar comments posted elsewhere so seems QF has issues.

I find that technique works in most SE Asian cities. It also works in Burma, but NOT for busses there, I discovered, the hard way. I got clipped by the wing mirror of one and would have been mowed down by another had I not scooted out of the way.
