Bought a small bottle of shampoo at a stall in the market at Pakse, 6,000 kip was the price, I gave her a 5,000 kip note and what I thought was 1,000 kip. It was actually a 10,000 kip note, which she explained and sorted it out. She could so easily have pocketed 15,000 kip, but didn't. Another reason to really like this country.

It would be nice if they dropped a 3 zeros of their notes though.

Our little one has hand foot and mouth. Very common ailment for small children and not that big an issue, except she won't sleep. So we can't sleep. Wife is currently driving her around in an effort to keep her down.

It's not fun.

Ugh. I feel for you and her.

I managed to catch it as an adult a couple of years ago and I've never been so miserable. Swallowing brought tears to the eyes and all I consumed for 3 days was warm water and Manuka honey and slept a lot. Day 4 and I was largely back to normal.

On your birthday, does anyone expect anything special when they're out and about, or travelling?

Yes, I do if I'm flying, or if I miss my birthday if I'm flying. I just expect a Happy Birthday from the CSM/CSS when getting my WP greeting (Intl only, no such greeting on dom!). I don't expect a gift or anything special, just a Happy Birthday. I think birthdays are awesome, and have missed a few due to travel, and one on QF11 I missed entirely due to date change.

Hey, JohnK, it was lovely to meet Little Miss JohnK and have a little cuddle last Friday in the BNE lounge. My Little Miss loves babies, though seems to want to hold them all like wee babies, which the older ones don't like. :p
Glad she settled down quickly after we upset her. ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that hasn't "grown out of" birthdays

Thanks. Good to finally meet your daughter as well. A very pleasant young lady.

Have a good weekend all... Hope everyone travelling is safe and the upgrade fairy blesses you

Apparently I have to vote today. Not. Happy. Didn't we have an election last year? Better be a sausage sizzle.

Currently in Burra for the weekend, flew down on Qantas on Thursday and great to be checked in by someone you know. Got the seats I wanted.

A few other friends were driving instead of flying, and had this to report on their trip.

I wish we had a dash cam yesterday on our way into Wilcannia

There is a truck stop not too far out of Wilcannia on the Sydney side.

As we approach the truck stop a whole family of 10 Emus ranging in size from obviously young not more than 1.5m high to three much older ones just came out of the scrub to cross the highway.

By the time I sowed down from 110k, veered to the left hand side, stopped and got out of the car fumbled to get my phone out as I tried to quickly exit the vehicle the whole bloody lot had jumped to fence and galloped off into the distance and didn't stop until they were about 1k away.
What an opportunity to see a line of Emus crossing the road almost single file stretching from one side of the highway to the other.
They only left eternal their foot prints in the dust of their much trodden leather shown here in the photo

One reply.

Oh goodie .... Kentucky Fried Chicken free range Aussie style :)

Mrscove is a seasick type so she won't do a cruise ever again. I can live with that.
We are considering "barge ladies" for a cruise up a river in Europe.

MrP and I did a pacific cruise in the early '80's. It was dreadful and he was awfully seasick. But in 2012 I convinced him to do a Med Cruise and he was hooked. The only river cruise I'd think about would be one in France across Bordeaux. Awfully expensive though.

My husband says if he wants to be in a confined space with a bunch of bogans, ie South Pacific cruise, he'll rather sit in my brothers garage, drinking beer.

Note. He's never sat with my brother, drinking beer.

A small European river cruise might be nice, or rent a barge boat and tour England.

Im a seasick type.
Wont do Easter Show rides or any such rides.
Boats - nope
Tried scuba diving and vomited under water. a lot of coordination goes into this procedure. Breathe in remove regulator vomit put in regulator before breathing. apparently vomiting through regulator is OK but some chunky bits might get stuck. Attracted lots of fish. Gave up scuba
Once took the cross channel boat between South and North Island of NZ. Never again. Most of the passengers were hollering into the toilet. No one allowed outside onto deck as the weather was bad. I had lunch on the boat just as it was departing as the weather was good and seas calm. It went from sunny to rolling seas, massive waves, rain in 1 hour
Airplanes not too bad but not down the back.
