The MEL F lounge was very busy before QF93 left so I shared a table for breakfast.

Great conversation with a stranger that otherwise would never have happened.

The joys of travel. :)

Absolutely agree on using the good stuff while we are able to enjoy it. I always wear my good jewellery because I'd rather lose it than have someone break in and steal it. Chances are the next generation won't enjoy it. They probably won't accumulate like we did. We have a wedgewood dinner set as a wedding present from my grandmother that sits in a cupboard. Been used just a few times. I said to my son I was going to use it once I was completely free of 'kids'. (They keep returning for various reasons). Which should be in September. He then said his partner would love that story making me feel guilty about using it again.

Awful news in London again. Son and his partner are there touristing. She's a Brit and has been to some pretty hairy places so she's clued up. But these attacks are so random. I think they leave Monday.

We dont buy fancy cutlery and china sets.
We go to restaurant catering stores and buy china/cutlery in volumes appropriate for us and put them in storage such that breakage does not require replacement with a new design as the old one is superseded.

BTW those wok burners on domestic stoves are just wimpy. A proper wok burner sounds like a jet engine with water taps over the stovetop so the stainless steel stovetop does not melt...

..................

It's the new order. The new method is simply driving into a crowd. Not much planning required.

These are planned IMO, just dont need much skill to make a bomb.

Stabbings are very common in London.

We don't buy the fancy items either. They were given as wedding presents as I'd suspect most are.

Sam resurrecting his political career.

Fancy sets are going out the door like dining rooms.

Wedding presents?. Why. I went to my cousins wedding in KUL. The custom is you give a red packet to a representative of the grooms family as well as the newly weds.
The red packet to the grooms family is to help offset the cost of the wedding

Similarly at funerals red packets are given to the family to help offset the cost of the funeral

Practical. No bridal gift registries which are grotesque

I've been married a long time and they were traditional gifts way back then. We also have a dedicate dining room - that gets used as an office mainly.

I don't like giving money for wedding presents. Never will.

Registry lists are a good idea as couples request what they need ranging in price from $10 to whatever. Seems like a good idea to me.

I suppose I shouldn't complain as we made a decision a few years back to always use the crystal for day to day drinking* and not 'keep it for guests' so we have had a lot of use out of them. Bound to happen at some stage and been lucky up till now.

*We do have a big set of cheapies that we use when we have people over for drinks though.
good decision :). We did the same for ages. Mr FM's parents used to be horrified that they were eating on Wedgwood plates for breakfast :). However it did get all packed away and only used for dinner parties and special occasions (e.g Christmas), after the kids came. I also hate hand washing and hand wash the crystal and Wedgwood plates. I now have what I call my "kitchen crystal" and a lovely Villeroy and Boch set that goes in the dishwasher for everyday :)

Just installed a mobile phone trigger for the electric gate. Now I can let people in and out when on the other side of the world.

Trigger unit has a sim card. Aldi $5. Ring trigger sim number, triggers a relay which opens gate.
Mobile numbers are registered within trigger unit so only registered mobiles can ring an trigger the gate.
Can also program mobile numbers for certain times of day, week number of entries.

Hope the CIA dont come after me:) for using a GSM trigger.

I wonder if women who have the lip filler treatment ever ask for their money back when their upper lip ends up like a duck's beak?

That stuff is just scary !!

And the frightening thing is that they think it makes them more attractive.

I remember seeing a TV program on plastic surgery in Thailand where the patients had terrible outcomes. There was one woman with a terrible face job and my first thought was that she was right to be so upset. Nope, she liked the face but she had weeping wounds from breast enlargement surgery.

I like your thinking.
Sometimes the crystal can be a bit heavy. Why have something and not use it? :-)

It is a lovely bright morning in HND. And because it is after 6* I just had to try the auto beer dispenser.

*When you are travelling, am or pm doesn't matter.
