The totally off-topic thread

Completely unrelated to the kvetching about IT in the last few posts, I've just received my Massive Attack tickets today and have been listening to the (v overdue) new album - it's many different kinds of awesome! The version I got with the concert ticket comes with a bunch of awesome remixes too :)

I forgot that it was released today (yesterday technically). I’ll fire up BT when I get up tomorrow and have a listen :)

Well mrsdrron does not think this WP thing is much at all.On her first QF sector as WP they sent our bags off in another direction. On her second this morning QF had cancelled last nights flight into DPO so that the early morning flight today was delayed by 75 minutes turning her 2 hour transfer to DJ into 45 minutes.Seems like she has made it though as no call from MEL.

What is it with you and having your bags being sent in the wrong direction?

This isn't the first time....

Commiserations to mrsdrron however.

Gotta love Apple Advertising:

To quote Frank Spencer (and punning on the topic above): "To what are you alluring?" :p

Well it isn't a perfect V-Day gift. I know it's only marketing spin, but who needs a second Ipod, or if someone doesn't already have one by now... it's pretty safe to say that there are reasons why they don't own one!

You're just making it harder for all the men out there looking for a gift. :p

I can't see the big deal with Apple gadgets anyway. Is there a revolution against Microsoft?

Some days I wish I could just block out all background noise in the office but I do not want/need to listen to music or anything else so an iPod is useless for me. Cone of silence would be perfect. :p

You could just get a normal set of earphones but play no music or the like. Ear plugs work too, although I guess that sends a more obvious message

Microsoft these days are the de facto bad guys and Apple the de facto good ones. Perhaps not a fair nor rational labelling, but not much one can do about that.

Perhaps ? I'm no Microsoft fan-boi, nor am I an Apple fan-boi. However, I see Apple up to many of the 'dirty tricks' that Microsoft got into so much trouble with fans years ago...

Well kudos to DJ.After the delayed QF flight from DPO mrsdrron did a quick transfer to the DJ desks. She had done an OLCI but only arrived at the bag drop with just over 20 minutes to the MCY flight.Mrsdrron had kept her QF BP,explained that theQF flight was very late. The DJ agent commented that she obviously was a flyer who knew the system so checked her bag in-so DJ do do an informal status match.:)
Of course she gets to security-a long line with wheelchair pax holding proceedings up.Got to the gate as the last people were boarding. She was 13C,exit row was 12-she said the youngest people in the exit row were in their 70s and they drank the whole way. Also 2 small women she thought looked in their 80s and in the window seat a fellow who needed a seat belt extender-WTF.

Well you can engrave them for free which makes for a nice memory every time they pickup the device (assuming you stick with them).

I recall a great Christmas idea a few years ago was:

You know what this is?
Year-round mistletoe.

I can't see the big deal with Apple gadgets anyway. Is there a revolution against Microsoft?

It’s not as much a revolution against Microsoft as it is a choice to look cool. For many, what Microsoft is doing with IE has no relevance when they see a beautiful mac and all their friends already have them.

I actually really disagree with that. When the iPod was first released, sure thing - but it's hardly the "cool status symbol" it once was because of its' ubiquity.

IMHO the reason Apple devices are popular and continue to sell well is because they make them do one or a few things very well (as opposed to many things done poorly), and they're pretty :p

I actually want to send an obvious message. The noise in the room is a joke and I just want to be able to concentrate and do some work without having to go away every so often to escape the noise. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a solution to my problem other than changing jobs.

Cool? The wanker playing music on his iPod at full blast on the train is not cool in my opinion

I've been known to wear industrial hearing protection. Great big orange ear muffs do send a message, believe me.

Could be the way to go to preserve my sanity (shut up in the peanut gallery) for a little longer....
