What would have been the point of adding aluminum cladding to the building, other than cosmetic?

From the Daily Mail

"The rain-proof cladding was installed at the tower in White City, west London, in May 2016 as part of a £10million refurbishment but claims say it helped the fire spread quickly from the fourth to 27th floor....... Planning documents have revealed the cladding was added so the tower would be more visually pleasing when seen from the nearby flats in neighbouring affluent suburbs."

Damn, thats going to be very hard to accept. So very very sad for all involved and London itself.

If its not too soon... maybe Blues Point Tower in Sydney can get a refurb like this but no one gets hurt.

I heard it on ABC radio at least 20 minutes ago and saw it online about 15...

At the very least, this pre-dates your post (which is just such a weird claim to make):

I was talking about on-line, not the radio and also when I looked at the sites . I looked at ABC/news/just in and it had London fire etc up-front; then looked at Australian online and SMH, both of which had the shooting prominent.

Its the off-topic thread and had been discussing the ABC; sorry my taste in off-topic you find "just so weird". ABC reporting has been discussed here before. But as they say YMMV. ;)

Some people are claiming the ABC are not reporting on incidents of terror.

Do you think this was an act or terror?

Another reason not to go to North Korea-

Warmbier has been in a coma for over a year, according to his parents, and will be rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center late Tuesday, a hospital

Same cladding that caught fire, in the 2014 apartment fire in Melbourne. The cladding has been linked to a number of fires worldwide in the last decade.

*gross warning*

Some days I hate people.

Just went into the disabled toilets and it looks like someone used the shower to poop.

I hate everything today.

Dropped the boss off at Canberra airport, geez I hate driving down the Monaro highway during Canberra's so called rush hour. Idiots on the road, very thick fog, they must get one car length in front at all costs, some people have no consideration for others, it's all about "me, me, me".

So they have done something silly (imo) to get in front of you and then they get a red light after turning off at an exit ramp and you catch up, stupid people.

Think the boss is going to be at the airport for a while, it's a real pea souper outside.

Yes, I agree with you Denali, some days I also hate (well maybe dislike is a better word) people, especially inconsiderate, greedy, must win at all costs sort of people.

Yes that's it. We started at 55 too. You can still do it but there's no tax benefit in doing so from July 1. Given we've been on it for 6 and 7 years now and more benefit from 60 it's why a grandfather clause is usually done in such cases.
I have noticed over the last 5 or 6 years that grandfathering seems to have gone with tax changes......painful to have been on it and lost it. Something to look forward to on retirement, if it hasn't changed again by then - I keep on expecting it to.

We watch the ABC and some other channels on Foxtel.
I think the ABC provides Australia with value for money.

Well with the ABC and Fairfax we wouldn't have found out how bad the Foreign Donations Scandal or how the guy who gave Tony Abbott's key fund raiser, John Caputo 1.1 million in donations was seeking to have his application for Australian Citizenship helped along.

Mr Huang said: "I am seeking legal advice about the clear attempts by Fairfax and the ABC to undermine my citizenship application and have nothing further to say on the matter."

Abbott money man hit by China donations scandal

This is Mary. Mary is very hungry as she hasn't eaten since last night. She is so hungry she needs to slurp her very liquidy cereal while she is waiting for her toast to cook in the QP. But she must check that no one else takes her toast so she is standing smack dab in front of the open tray about 30 cms away, slurping her cereal as she watches it. It comes out but seems to her to have bred a third slice (mine, that she watched me place on the tray - of course she watched me as I had to basically move her out of the way of the grill entry). So she has now three pieces of toast until she sees me standing there and puts back that third slice and says 'that must be yours.' Mary walks off slurping her cereal. She is still very hungry.

We arrived back home last night after a 4 week trip to Ireland, Finland, Estonia & Singapore. Most of the trip was in J on Finnair & Qatar (especially good) but the Per - Sin - Per legs were on SQ in Y. The trip up was OK, but on last nights flight home we had a couple of serial recliners in front of us. Plus a remarkably grumpy SQ FA. There was much "wailing and gnashing of teeth" from my wife, who has previously been fairly happy in SQ Y.

I think my chances of booking in Y, except for short trips, has been destroyed. Ah well, it is only the kids money after all.

Interesting. Just overhead the QP manager ? ask someone not to lie down in the lounge. Very apologetic but quite firm in the request.

Were they evening flights? I'd expect a recline if so.

My husbands birthday today.

He got his free loyalty member boost juice, red rooster meal and $50 of his Levis purchase with his birthday money gift. Hes about to swing past Wendys for a free icecream and then home for a food coma crash.

I told him he can get free subway for dinner for free as well if he wants - he wants chicken broth to detox.

Edit: and he wants to do Gold Class this weekend and we have enough points to free tickets :)

Im ok with recliners, because thats what the seats are made to do, but there is a time it shouldnt be done. Seconds after you sit down or during the meal or seconds after your meal has been cleared (ie, the person behind you still has their tray) is not the time to recline. You recline slowly, in case the person has a laptop on their tray, ease into it.

But I think OzDucks problem was it was in Y. Mrs OzDuck wont be going back behind the curtain again if she has her say about this in future :)

Yes, the manner of recline was a major problem. Slamming it back without a care about what is happening behind you.

And also, yes she definitely prefers the "other " side of the curtain now after two major trips - to Canada & Europe in J.:p
