Had another of those nights of too much alcohol. Didn't sleep much. Eyes closed but wide awake.

Need a break from the holiday.

Huge fire in London.
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-40269625A huge fire has engulfed a tower block in Latimer Road, west London, with eyewitnesses claiming people are trapped in their homes.

The fire at Grenfell Tower on the Lancaster West Estate was reported at 01:16 BST and about 200 firefighters are tackling the blaze.

The Met Police said people were being treated for "a range of injuries".

The BBC's Andy Moore said the whole tower block was alight and there are fears the building might collapse.

Still burning after several hours, probably a major tragedy about to unfold.

I hope we are not going to find out that someone locked the exit doors and this was on purpose.

I hate the Tax office and the way they are messing with OUR super and not theirs. Having reached 60 we were able to take out between 4-10% as the 'pension' and which makes the super fund tax free for growth and CGT (but still taxed for contributions). Come July 1 - regardless of what we do the super fund will be taxed on growth and CGT. Plus we are reduced to $25,000 SG and Salary sacrifice. They want us to be self sufficient in retirement but clearly their definition of self sufficient = the pension rate equivalent. Given this only impacts on those aged between 60-65 their usual grandfather clause could have been enacted like it has been in the past but clearly none of the bods are grandfathers. Labor policies were much more supportive. Change in the wind. But it will be too late for us.

Nothing to do with the ATO, it's the Liberal/National Party Coalition who did this to you. The ATO has to administer the law.
Yes, you are correct. Damn politicians.

Unless you are the Deputy of the ATO ;) Allegedly.

Yes, he was allegedly involved in some funny business. I do hope the ATOs payroll department stopped his final payout until an investigation has been carried out to determine if he breached the APS code of conduct.

The code of conduct investigation (civil) will wait until the criminal investigation is concluded but is not stopped by a person resigning from the APS.

That looks horrible. Potentially could happen in Melbourne or Sydney one day.

Wasnt there an issue with a high rise in Melb using subpar wiring or something about the outside cladding that was a fire trap? I think it was the cladding and the answer was to install fire system instead of replacing it.

Its a common issue in Dubai - they have had many fires in their high rise buildings including the one we saw on NYE in 2015. Its the Aluminium I think.

Half of central Melbourne's newest high-rises have been installed with flammable cladding, prompting a fresh audit of "hundreds" of buildings across Victoria and new investigations into building practitioners.

The rapid spread of a fire through a Docklands apartment tower was caused in part by combustible construction materials, a review has found, sparking an investigation into building practices and paving the way for an expensive class action.

Apparently dodgy cladding and construction materials are rife in Melbourne apartments.
