Love insurance companies.

Happily take your money but when it comes to paying out they try to screw you every way possible.

My father in law's $$$$$ monument has been laid at the cemetery and looks good. Mother in law is happy, thats all that counts.

Anyone else getting jack of the GoFundMe thats happening more and more? This week alone I had 2 friends promote someones go fund me for funerals.

But, trigger warning because involves a child, this is heart breaking and interesting.

the family was under the impression that they were covered by their credit card's travel insurance.

I just had a discussion with hubby how Im sure we are over insured (as I buy a policy) but I dont want to get screwed in the fine print on these credit card insurance offers when the poop hits the fan.

Horrible situation for the family. It seems as if the whole response to the situation from the emergency responders was very poor.

A sweeping statement that has no basis. Unfortunately this seems to be a widespread thought held in Aust. Sure there are times of dispute but having worked in the insurance industry for a time, I have seen many generous settlements reached when the companies would have been within their rights to reduce/not pay-these acts don't make sensational headlines so they go unreported. I don't think we are going to see A Current Affair set aside a time every night to praise an insurance company yet they thrive on having whingers come forward.
There are years when Australian General Insurance companies payouts exceed premium income-How does this occur?

No basis? I can't help to feel a biased here, but each to their own.

By memory, something to do with a Youi policy on his car.

Youi are a disgrace, they wouldn't cover my storm damaged shed because it was "OUTSIDE"

Aami are fantastic and basically forced me to take a cheque for roof damage from blocked and broken gutters even though I hadn't fixed the gutters.

So you believe the statement of JohnK in Post 65583 to be correct?

I don't believe your first sentence to be correct. I believe it to be biased due to your background as noted.

A number of responses above, plus the coverage that Comminsure amongst others tarnish the industry suggesting that there is some base to the dislike of insurance companies in Australia.

It is not untrue to suggest that insurance is a necessary evil.

We all have biases.RB has declared his and so I am happy to accept his opinions.

Yes another caveat emptor situation . Even now the advertised energy efficiency of LED is not always true.

A good driver with an efficient circuit design is key to an efficient power factor (>0.9). Problem is you dont know what the PF is when you go to a shop to get an led light.

A poor driver design with a PF of 0.5 means that the apparent power draw (as seen by the electricity meter man) may be double that advertised by the manufacturer. So a 10W LED with a PF of 0.5 uses 20W of billable power.

Dont you love green technology with dodgy advetising

Especially as businesses have been required to pay for apparent power for a while now, as well as residential customers in VIC.

When I went through high school, senior students were "expected" to spend 3 hours a night for homework. I'll admit my average was not near that, and I was a mid to mid-low range A student who did 3 extra curricular activities.

I commuted about two hours or so home by bus everyday after school. Not to mention doing the reverse journey every day to school as well. That - along with having to share a small room - almost completely destroyed my chances of getting much done, aside from reading textbooks.

I am glad I went to that school though. I may not have been the greatest student as a teen, but I definitely became a better person because of that environment.

We are installing more than 100 LED lights in our two Perth warehouses to smash our current Perth electricity bills. This is pretty much our final move which comes after our success with solar power and lighting nationally. Based on the ratings the LED lights run at about 23% power use of the ones we are replacing. In WA there is no Government incentive so they are the last two warehouses to get the refit.
We mostly work sunlight hours so the solar systems and improved efficiency lighting have worked a treat.

No, they actually have to provide it for you to be able to use your real power

Actually I may have to walk it back a bit

Residential customers (at least in NSW) pay by the kW and not by VA. If billed according to VA (Volts-amps :apparent power) then a Power Factor correction unit may be useful if using a lot of inductive loads - fluoro lights, electric motors. Billed by kW than no need for PF correction as real power is the billable unit.

A sweeping statement that has no basis.
Not as sweeping as you think.

NRMA has treated me like cough and I am not even a client. That battle will resume shortly with me going to FOS. I know it's going to cost them by me going to FOS and that will make me happy.

I've dealt with another insurance company on another matter. I asked for a quote before they approved the work but they went ahead and did the work anyway and then billed me 7 days car hire at $100/day.

You see when someone else is paying they splurge but when they have to pay they skimp.

I have seen memo issued from management to Claims that mentions they have to keep costs down. I have seen them deal with a client by refusing a claim but in order to do that they spent more than they saved.

I've dealt with a travel insurance claim. Not pleasant.

Now your experiences might be different. Fair enough. My experiences are bad enough for me to make that statement.

I think being a kid these days is exhausting.

School plus homework plus extra private tutoring, sports, maybe something else like martial arts or music ect plus social media stresses. Exhausting.

Or IRC as it may be, back in my day ;)

I'm having an email hate moment today too. Before we left for our OS trip in early July I made sure I briefed the accountant that I was finalising BAS before I left. Today I received an email from them saying that they'd changed our accounting from cash to accruals and that this applied to BAS4. Which is of course due tomorrow before I get back. Hence me doing it before we left. I sent a terse email back advising I'd already done BAS4 and left it up to them to sort.

Of course if they'd read their emails.......Do people think we send emails for fun or something?

I have a staff member like that, drives me insane! Not reading your emails properly is not an excuse.
