Do what MrsTMA did, just get one. He'll adapt and soon be smitten!Trying to convince hubby we should get a cat and looking up cat shelters/adoption.
Some of these cats, as I dont want a kitten, have been in care for years and years. So sad.

Italians also change sides depending on how the wind is blowing. To quote from the brilliant Italian novel, il Gattopardo, "everything needs to change, so everything can stay the same".

Yes I had a similar experience. First time I bought a place (1978), no problem getting a loan in Sydney. Then moved to Melbourne, sold my unit and met Mr FM and we moved back to Sydney in 1980. Wanted to buy a house together and all of a sudden the same financial institution would no longer take my salary into account. All our figures went out the door and all of a sudden we had to really scramble to get a loan. The house we were buying was quite modest 3x my salary and 1.5 x our combined salary. Interest rates went up to over 17% just after we moved in, so just as well we started smallSo it was a pretty cheap house for the day. A house worth an average year's wage was hard to find unless in a smaller country town. Our first house was 6 times my wage in 1974, though the bank didn't count my wage as I was a female.
We bought individual Christmas puddings last week at Coles! My memory sucks these days
