Some of these cats, as I dont want a kitten, have been in care for years and years. So sad.

With my husband, you have to lead him to the mountain by laying the idea seeds for him to be comfortable with it.

Denali - I can give you our experience. Mrs Rugby and I both grew up with cats and dogs. Because we both work and travel we didn't want a dog. We adopted a 5 yr old tortoiseshell cat from the Animal Welfare League 8 years ago. She took some settling in and we board her at a very good facility when we travel, and she is a magnificent companion. Highly recommended.

So it was a pretty cheap house for the day. A house worth an average year's wage was hard to find unless in a smaller country town. Our first house was 6 times my wage in 1974, though the bank didn't count my wage as I was a female.

Yes I had a similar experience. First time I bought a place (1978), no problem getting a loan in Sydney. Then moved to Melbourne, sold my unit and met Mr FM and we moved back to Sydney in 1980. Wanted to buy a house together and all of a sudden the same financial institution would no longer take my salary into account. All our figures went out the door and all of a sudden we had to really scramble to get a loan. The house we were buying was quite modest 3x my salary and 1.5 x our combined salary. Interest rates went up to over 17% just after we moved in, so just as well we started small
