WMW Did you notice our posts were censored without our approval?

Mods: don't abuse your power by editing posts! Just because the new forum software allows you to do that, It's actually illegal to modify the text of a person's post. It's an abuse of free speech. You can remove or delete it but you absolutely can not 'edit' a members post based on your own personal opinions.

I looked at my last few posts and I can't notice anything different.

Can you really overdose on chocolate?

Might take 10, 30yrs but diabetes is always an option :)

Drove past the new Costco at Marsden Park, near Lindt, and there was a big crowd outside waiting for it to open and cars queued up to get into the carpark.

Going to give it a month or so for the novelty to wear off before going there.

I thought copyright was taking a written thought and using it as your own. Like when we copy rooflyers book.

Ho ho ho. The copyright laws do allow copying the book that I contributed to. Not just copying the whole lot :) And if you see the size/shape of the pages, it may give copiers pause.

Copyright is a complex thing and I'm by no means an expert! It doesn't only apply to the written word - it applies to all 'creative and artistic' works, such as text, music, computer programs and pictures. Its essentially a protection of Intellectual Property.

As far as words go, it is the composition (form and sequence of words) that is important.

As far as writing or contributing to a published book is concerned, its usual for the author to assign copyright to the publisher (sometimes in exchange for money!) who then can edit it to their hearts content (to make it saleable!). I imagine contributions to AFF work in much the same way - AFF is the publisher and although I haven't looked, I imagine AFF take ownership of what's contributed. I think that's how Facebook works, isn't it? They own everything you post?

there is copyright and plagiarism. If you take bits of someone's work and pretend it is your own, that is plagiarism, and it is wrong and Unis and schools do a lot of work to identify it.

Taking a small amount of a work and using it or quoting it with correct referencing is allowed under copyright laws. Not sure about music - it seems a very difficult area.

Can you provide any evidence that that it is illegal to modify someones post?
Can you provide any evidence that there is such a thing as free speech in Australia?

My cousin is said to have made himself sick eating too much chocolate one Easter when he was a kid and doesn't eat it now. I have tried millions of times to do a similar thing to cure myself, but it just doesn't work for me.

Similar happened in France with cheese. Didn't eat Camembert/Brie for about 2 years

When I was in my teens I could eat chocolate till it came out my ears, I drank grasshoppers all night, never put on weight !

Article 19 of the UDHR states that freedom of speech is a human right.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Of course:
  • Just because Australia is a signatory / recognises the UDHR doesn't mean they codify its contents as law, protects those rights or places limits on those rights
  • The right to freedom of speech, as some will probably find difficult to argue otherwise, is not unbounded

A quick search without much further reading seems to shine an interesting light on freedom of speech in Australia. For example: Do we have the right to freedom of speech in Australia?

Your seem to have a square golf ball avatar now. Congratulations on the visa.

Wife has been granted bridging visa already. Now need to pay more money so wife and daughter can get back in November as tourist visa expires.

Good result anyway.

Right to freedom of speech does not extend to the politically incorrect.
