Assisted death should be like cough sex and blow jobs. Don't like doing it, then don't participate but for those that do, it's a private matter and others shouldn't judge (or keep their judgments to themselves) or try to control their choices.

Im pro choice on life and death, you are welcome to not agree but people should be allowed the right to choose yah or nay.

This is a good reason why the United Nations are regarded as a bunch of plonkers (to put it politely):

WHO slammed after making Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe a ‘goodwill ambassador’

(if paywalled Google the headline)

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has long faced United States sanctions over his government’s human rights abuses. But the World Health Organisation’s new chief is making the longtime African leader a “goodwill ambassador.”

With Mugabe on hand, WHO director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus announced the appointment at a conference in Uruguay this week on non-communicable diseases. Dozens of health groups have reacted with shock.

In his speech, Tedros described Zimbabwe as “a country that places universal health coverage and health promotion at the centre of its policies to provide health care to all.” Two dozen organisations — including the World Heart Federation, Action Against Smoking and Cancer Research UK — released a statement slamming the appointment, saying health officials were “shocked and deeply concerned” and citing his “long track record of human rights violations.” The groups said they had raised their concerns with Tedros on the sidelines of the conference, to no avail. Zimbabwe’s government has not commented
.

I don't think the hundreds of people Mugabe's lot have murdered and tortured would agree with the 'health care to all' bit.

All of the international bodies seem to be one huge food trough. Add United Nations to that.

UN is a toothless tiger with jobs for the boys (and women) benefits.

Anyone remember the original batman TV episode where the UN members were reduced to sand and then remixed when put back together? Good times...

If I had bought $10,000 CBA shares in 1994 and $10,000 Woolworths shares not long after my share portfolio would be doing quite well. This is not hindsight. I had just paid off my first loan and had some spare cash and was seriously considering investing but I was talked out of it. :(

Just wish I had access to a time machine so I can go back to 1994 and kick my butt into buying these shares.
Curiously enough I did do that in 1994 as well as WBC in late 1992.

I now receive significantly more in the 6 monthly dividend from CBA (for example) AND before adding in the value of the franking credit - than I actually paid for the shares in the first place.

It is now a little concerning that after having effectively bet 'red' on the roulette wheel for 23 years that black may turn up!

It is a nice problem to have (ah those 1st world issues).

Woolworths was no where near as gratifying though, although the 10x bonus points one use card each annual report is a nice touch, pity it cannot be used for points on egc purchases.

Excitement level, when I see the Great British Bakeoff is back was level 11....

And then I saw Mary Berry and two other ladies were not back ... crashed down to earth. The Noel Fielding guy looks like hes in search of a 80s rock video. Not. Happy. Paul!

My husband tells me since we've gotten the NBN, every day, approx noon-1pm, it goes down. I thought he was making it up but today and yesterday, yep - noon to 1pm it doesnt work.

I think that was from the original Batman movie. Original Batman episodes are now streaming on SBS Demand.

I'm sorry DrRon but the last bloke the Libs turned to has that one tied down forever. (and his delusioned supporters still fantasise that people voted for him and his policies instead of anyone but the rabble Labor had become.) And never forget Billy!
The last Holden rolled off the production line this week.

Unfortunately Holden made cars that most weren’t interested in buying. Then the rise of the Aussie dollar. Labour costs. Not a good mix.

JessicaTam, your experience on board an EK flight in October may show how it's not a peak travel month, but it also is a random guide to how much competition there is for travellers at present - a lot.

For a couple hundred millions we could still have locally produced cars, that were made from conception to completion. Tony Abbott basically sacked thousands of people (not just factory workers) in multiple companies (component companies etc) purely because of his toxic ideology. This is a person who has a hatred of public transport and even extols cars and roads but on his watch crushed an industry which had a multiplier effect on the economy. But instead we are now wasting tens of billions on navy boats and subs with no due date in one of the biggest pork barrelling exercises in Australian History.

…there just aren’t enough people wanting to go from a particular place to a particular destination at a particular time to justify any vehicle larger than a car, and cars need roads.”Tony Abbott

The Abbott government has been accused of pork-barrelling after analysis of the budget's infrastructure spending revealed Coalition electorates are favoured for new money by a ratio of three to one.

A Fairfax Media analysis of the Abbott government's 2014 budget has calculated that, of the new projects announced and funded, just under three-quarters were in Coalition electorates.

Coalition electorates favoured 3 to 1 in Abbott government infrastructure spend

Of course it’s dreadful for the families involved. But it’s way too simplistic to lay the blame on one person. Who changed FBT rulings that effectively killed off new car sales?
