Got 2nd and 3rd in the office sweep so came out $9 in front - which has never happened.

Oh and I won best hat - huge box of Cadbury Favourites :) Again...

Every year my hat is known for being.... inventive. I once grew a miniature grass racecourse for my hat. This year was a homage to our company products and what they do.

The GM did ask if I have ever lost a best hat vote - quite a few people answered, "Once" :)

Some of us have to work despite living in melbourne....at least I got a prize in the sweep.

I worked until 0700 this morning including 3 hours overtime . Drove home in the rain and was glad to see that the weather got better while I slept.

Too busy working in my case. My dads former PA just dropped in to say she scooped the bets today as her lucky numbers are 7, 9 and 22...

After switching my mobile plan to Optus, I noticed some premium sms service signed me up without my consent. I reported to Optus via the net and had to manually select no premium services. Cheeky buggers set it at ten bucks a month which can be taken via premium sms, as default.

Bill comes, I was billed for the service and billed $2.20 for a paper bill for my second month, despite no mention of paper bills costing anything when I ported.

Call them up and woeful customer service is only open about 10 hours a day. Have to do a web chat. Said I wanted a refund on both issues. Threats of TIO complaint. Told 2 business days to refund. 5 biz days go by and notice I was still billed for the premium service and money taken directly out of my CC despite promises I would only be pay my usual monthly rate. Gave them a chance but had to file a TIO complaint.

When they call me up, I don't want a credit, I want a refund. IMO just plain stealing what they did.

Ive had this with Telstra prepaid. Told them over phone "disable premium services" and "internet". But the premium services still appear. Had to go through a few hoops to get out of it. Their loophole is that someone must have rang premium services even though its disabled. Very dodgy

I love the race. I was just a kid when Gurners Lane and Mick Dittman robbed Kingston Town of a much deserved victory.

And even younger when "Hyperno's won the Melbourne Cup, 2 lengths to Salamander and a head to Red Nose!"

And Dulcify one of the saddest moments.

My first memory of the Melbourne cup is when Toporoa won.Had told my dad to back it and he did.
So when our son told us 2 years in a row that Think big would win I had to have a flutter.
My biggest win though was when Even Stevens won in 1962.I was the school bookie.Couldn't lose. But Even Stevens was the best result for me.

I won $100 on the Melbourne Cup. Just told my son to put a bet in whatever horse was in stall 13. Romped it. I didn’t know the result as I was on a plane to Singapore.

Mystery surrounds Dulcify final resting place. According to Derryn Hinch, Dulcify was turned into chicken pellets at the old abattoir across the river. Official version Dulcify was buried under a Oak tree in either Kyneton or Werribee.

was turned into chicken pellets..

along with almost every one of those nice horsies that folks get all excited about when they are racing.
as well as that ..
70% of tb's bred.. never race.. they just fast track it from cradle to chicken pellets

I’m not that enamoured with horse racing.
Various articles about the other side of the coin.
Many just disappear. Thousands bred each year but most don’t end up retiring to green pastures.
You can actually lease an ex racehorse for no lease cost.
