Someone please save me from the forelock tugging sycophants in the Australian media about the English royal marriage next year.

Maybe Spain or Italy next May to escape?
Start reading the newspaper from the back page?

My attention span lasts around 7-8 pages. I don't have the energy for the rest of the rubbish.

A goal. Money based. Once achieved then there's no real reason to continue working. Hopefully only another 6 years.

Sounds like a famous movie quote, "I have a number in mind and I haven't hit it yet."

I am planning on working another 20 years.

Husband told me the other day I only need to work for another 5 years.

Considering I cant take a day off work, because hes always there!, I think I will choose the office.

But I foresee us being sold off in the next 5yrs and I will be 55 by then with almost 20yrs service so will deal with it as it happens...

ASFA quotes that a couple will need $60K pa to live as below (assume home is unencumbered). Realistic??
“A “comfortable” retirement is defined by ASFA as being when a retiree can afford to be involved in all the recreational activities they like and buy household goods, private health insurance, a reasonable car, good clothes, electronic equipment, and travel occasionally. A comfortable retirement might allow you to eat out more regularly and travel further and enjoy more luxuries.”

Just found a Snr manager of a news agency unlocked phone in our office lobby.... I guess I could have snooped the texts and names/numbers but who's got time for that.

Originally that number was 45 and for a long time it looked like I would hit it easily but didn't make it. Then the number was 50, then 55 and now 60. Think that's about enough.

I think so although I think I can live comfortably on $1,000/week. We don't eat out. Don't need designer clothes. Don't need fancy car. Not into electronic gadgets. And I think there's enough there for 2 trips to Thailand/year possibly 3.

Need to try and minimise tax and top-up superannuation to $25,000/year between now and retirement.

Maybe he had to leave it unattended as he had a meeting with Shanghai Sam?
Think I don't understand is why any Billionaire or even CEO types, especially a Chinese one, would need to be warned that his phone 'may be tapped', especially 'may be tapped by Americans'. Of course it is being tapped I would assume?

It is usually part of the standard briefing for any business/government person travelling to PRC that your electronic items will be hacked and tapped, Some organisations even have basic phones for use in PRC that are are totally wiped upon return and never used for anything sensitive.

The word 'occasionally' after 'travel' I do not find acceptable . 'Frequently' is better ;):p.

I reckon "comfortably" means at the end of the week there is "some left over".

I think apart from an unencumbered house, its good to start retirement with a house that is new or in good repair so it will at least last till life expectancy.

Interestingly after age 85 the prediction by the same mob is the financial requirements will be less:

Good to see $$ attributed to "Alcohol consumed in home" is HIGHER at 85 than 65.....

They seemed to be allowing $4000pa for domestic holiday at 65yo.

These figures are exactly why I keep working.Less than $7000 per year for all travel.Tell em they're dreaming.
Fortunately I also love the work.

Worry about 85 if and when I ever get there.

Those figures are interesting but I don't think they take into account someone who chooses to live a modest lifestyle without all the trimmings.

I don't want to be attacked again but my parents live comfortably off the pension. They have money left over. My younger brother has not worked for over 10 years and he for the most part is retired with very little superannuation.

I think it's possible.

Don't you just hate it when summer comes around and you start wearing sandals again and you get blisters from them even though they are old ones and should be OK.:(
