Worry about 85 if and when I ever get there.

Those figures are interesting but I don't think they take into account someone who chooses to live a modest lifestyle without all the trimmings.

I don't want to be attacked again but my parents live comfortably off the pension. They have money left over. My younger brother has not worked for over 10 years and he for the most part is retired with very little superannuation.

I think it's possible.
Yes, it is possible though sometimes I think our aspirations are bigger than out bank balances :). We have a reasonable income - not on the pension so self funded and a CSS component for MrLtL which is not huge - though at times I can get a little green eyed at other people's travel plans.

It is usually part of the standard briefing for any business/government person travelling to PRC that your electronic items will be hacked and tapped, Some organisations even have basic phones for use in PRC that are are totally wiped upon return and never used for anything sensitive.
Daughter used to travel there often as part of her job. It was a standard warning for them. They were provided with very basic mobiles to use while there. It seems we do the same thing here.

Husband went to a funeral today and phones to tell me he bought a new car.

Not the deceased car, thankfully, but not sure how this happened. He wasnt suppose to get a new car until next year.

Oh, and he sold his current car to his brother... again.

Who's getting the deal here? Your husband or his brother?

Brother in law is getting a good car. Isuzu DMax, 4yrs old and less than 50Ks, very well looked after/never used as a tradie car.

First item of retirement business - Done4
My husband has taken up piano lessons.

Making polite conversation with a kid while waiting the other day, he asks the kid how long hes been taking lessons for. Kid answers that this is his first year. Hubby told him hes been taking lessons for 40yrs :)

Just went to Oroton site but its crashing.

Good quality items, lasts for many years.

What overseas travel can a couple buy with $2800?

Airfares on legacy carriers to Europe are under $1000 these days. If you have friends/family you could probably get away with $2800. Couple of trips to Bali/Fiji/China/Hong Kong/thailand... all of those are around $500 or less. And accommodation doesn't have to be expensive.
