Co worker, who she and her family of 5 flew to Santiago earlier this year, just told me that they didnt sign up for Qantas/didnt get points.

How I found this out is she asked me how to get free flights.

You can retroactively join Qantas. Is it one month or 6 months grace?

I know I joined in May after having taken flights in April. And I joined with the form in the Qantas magazine paying the $85 joining fee.

I think it was in March so 10mths now/too long.

And you paid the joining fee?! Thats very unlike you, we got ours for free.

I'm not sure if there were ways of avoiding the joining fee in 2003.

Am in recovery after yet another trans-pacific trip back to work. It is 3am here in Colombia and I cannot sleep. Doing my perennial thing of trying to decide (whilst drinking rum), at what point I stop plying the AFF site in case I get nasty in my replies to lesser travellers posts.....

Keep going - it could be interesting

I'll try not to antagonise you then :D:eek:

Don't you dare goad me :)

Go on - have another rum. I'm just about to go out so look forward to seeing the flames when I return. Seriously though - hope you get to sleep soon there isn't anything worse!!

love_the_life, you are personally responsible for me pouring another rum and not yet shutting down my pc......

Actually, I have never really got involved in the "off-topic" thread much. But I like it.

Let me explain.... (through my rum-infused brain)

I live in a complicated existence. A huge part of that existence is flying. I average these days about one full month a year airborne - 2 hrs per day. 450,000 km this year. When you add in airports etc that time doubles.

I used to be a police officer. Only yesterday (again, having just done a trans-pac, I was tired and emotional) and I lamented on facebook that I miss the brotherhood that profession entailed.

I have moved on. But I certainly miss that feeling of belonging. But now I get that same feeling through AFF. We all have our realities - and I understand the air-road-warriors, as I share their pain, but I also understand the less frequent flyers, and their interest and passion. For me AFF has become a centre of my existence. I can log on at any hour, and read and share and enjoy.

I have only met a couple of AFF stalwarts. JohnM, the best guest I ever received in Colombia. And DrRon - and his better half - a dinner on the sunshine coast.

I missed Rooflyer by seconds, or minutes. I stood on the dock at Puerto Montt in Chile merely a few moments after he left there.

If I was Australia based things would be simpler.

But I love this online community. Which is why I get worried when I get warmed up and want to blast posters. Which is what I am avoiding tonight....

My husband's piano Christmas homework is to learn to play a Ed Sheredon (spelling?) song.

Me: You guys having a school concert, like we use to do in primary school?

Ed something. The red head that sang in games of thrones and the internet was outraged.

Hubbys now practising his scales. It's actually relaxing to listen to.
