I said similar about Medicare when watching Struggle Street the other day. If it wasnt for medicare, lots of people will be in a very bad place, both physically and emotionally..

Yes it cover people’s medical needs but does not necessarily improve health.

Medicare is just a transfer payment, not an insurance because it’s does nothing for behavioural modification necessary for good health.

No one wants to acknowledge the elephant in the room that the Medicare levy (which is to cover the costs of Medicare) does not cover Medicare. It’s just a token amount. Those who say I’ve paid my Medicare levy I’m entitled to the open chequebook of Medicare is deluded and the pollies are happy to foster that delusion.

People who rely on Medicare to get better often don’t. The best examples are the type 2 diabetics who seek medical services on Medicare for their diabetes and associated medical comorbidities.

It’s an interesting observation that people who are injured and entitled to workers Comp don’t tend do as well as people who are not entitled to workers comp for similar injuries.
People who pay out of their own pocket get better faster.

Wonder why State governments are so addicted to stamp duty?

I suppose in the current environment taxes don’t cover much either.

Walk a mile in my shoes , Rf...
I have been steadily preparing for my eventual demise.
Coming from a time where chattels were to be revered ( and carefully preserved for… ), it's challenging to start throwing them all away. Vinnies just got a nice little contribution to their book sale and many cu/m's of all sorts of lovingly stored squirrel material is now landfill.
My dad was a copious writer and it is uber painful to just toss it all . The "best of" will be digitised but playing judge and jury about what makes the cut is challenging.
We also have a lifetime of photographs , video's, super 8 film, about 16000 ( and rising ) digital images... and it all has to be dealt with.

The lemon we were all forced to buy sucks more each day.

It’s actually medical waste. Can’t be recycled. Unless you are Frankenstein and in need of a body part or two
None of that stuff listed with the x can go in the rubbish bin though. Except when the recycling bin is full (it is every fortnight) then unless you want to build up a pile of recyclables which I don’t, then this will end up in the rubbish bin from time to time.
My guess - general waste that can’t be recycled?

Yowzers. Am selling my holiday place, so have to empty the garage which has been my storage facility since I moved back to Tasmania in 2004.

These cartons contained much of my paper life since first year Uni in '78 until when I left investment banking in 2004.

* Letters to and from my main geology employer Western Mining Corp from my first job offer to my resignation, including advice of various pay rises through the years

Alas, most of it went to the tip (2 cubic m) ; just a few treasures kept. Much relief that no remorse has set in.

How did you go from investment banking to Geologist.

Maybe I need a major change of career.

Also easy way to get rid of things move places a few times; that trims that stuff in your life.

Geo to banker. Investment banks need geos, engineers etc to help them understand the value of the assets and projects of mining companies, for both take-overs (my main area) and for when the companies want to borrow the money to buy or develop them. It paid better than hitting rocks :) but 10 years was enough for me. Then managed a tin mine, then floated and ran a renewable energy company and a couple of other daft things.

Not for me though. Moved 8 times in first 23 years of working including 10 years in Sydney.

I used my head and didn't go out on a limb with my heartfelt response. ;)
Actually, what we found amusing was the warning about microwave ovens.:)

How is it in brisbane that one of the important council issues is people putting microwave ovens in the rubbish bin? It’s not like we (most of us) use and discard two a week!

mrs.dr.ron ... a gentleman never shows photos (besides, they are hardcopy photos and slides and still 'up the coast ')

Ah. Ok. Thinking along different lines then.

Got my Guardian dash cam last night, its small. Its also doesnt use a suction cup, it has a mount stuck to the window like your toll tag so its hardly visible. Now to place it right (and the gps thingy) but you can put it in front of the mirror and dont see it at all while driving.

Im not going to hard wire it for now, happy to use the cigarette lighter thingy.

I envision our future car inclusions will include a mirror built in dash cam where you only put the memory card in. What else can they put in cars these days? We've got eyesight, auto park, auto drive, voice control, sat nav ect. I remember when power steering and a CD player was a optional extra!

Sample photo.
