I don't understand how quickly people have embraced the cashless society.

You never carried your whole life in cash. You carried enough cash to get by. The original credit cards were fairly safe needing a signature. Now people store their credit cards on their phone.

What next? A chip in your body with your life savings?

Signatures aren't exactly secure...

Sure if someone is good enough to forge. But I would say much safer than an unsecured app on a phone that someone just happens to pick up.

Hardly anyone actually checks signatures. On my phone they either need my actual fingerprint or know how to unlock my phone (iPhone/android). And yes, I know that you can write "check ID" on your card, but again, that requires the agent to actually read it and care. PINs are more secure, but that also depends on humans being smart about their PIN.

and…. if you sign.. it's your problem if you are "managed"
If my credit card+pin is skimmed.. the bank will take care of the problem

everywhere is different.. In the US , they take signatures and never check them, here in the shaky isles the old clunker machines want a pin for a $5 spend..how boring…. I'm super lazy now from tapping and going -$100 in "oz

Not at all. The signatures were rarely checked. After my 28 degrees card was subject to fraud and cancelled just as we got to London in September, I used MrsTMA's 28 degrees card for 30 days through England and Spain and I signed it every time with her 'signature'. Even thought the card was clearly in the name of MrsTMA and my signing didn't look like tone one on the card, no one ever looked at it. Not what I call secure. App on phone requires phone password or finger print plus extra login to the card services. Plus one gets instant feedback from the provider for the receipt of the funds. Much much better.

IT supplied some data on work emails. 11.5million received, 74% rejected based on ‘reputation’, 0.9% with invalid address, 4% spam, 0.5% rejected on content. I won’t be as eager to complain about the IT department in the future, in fear that they change my incoming email settings.

Coming up from the Gold Coast by train this morning. Wife in one seat with daughter in stroller and me in the seat opposite with luggage and laptop bag.

My wife was asleep as she was suffering from travel/motion sickness. At Loganlea I noticed the Station Master looking into the carriage as the train took off. Not sure what she was checking.

A few minutes later train conductor comes down saying someone had complained that a lady had fallen asleep and baby was left alone in stroller. He's looking down the carriage and no other strollers in sight assumes it's us. Yes wife is asleep because she's dizzy and that's my daughter. Oh!

I can see how misunderstandings happen. People don't pay attention and make stupid assumptions.

Ah. So many assumptions were made there but I guess it’s good that people are concerned about children’s welfare.

Why would a pax sleeping while a baby is safely secured in a stroller be a problem or concern? Other than the busy body, boogeyman "someone can steal your baby" hysteria?

They were concerned about something happening to the baby while mum is asleep. To their eyes child is not being observed and JohnK is a random passenger sitting nearby. If he was holding a child’s toy etc then different outcome. but he didn’t say he was doing that, just a computer.

I wasn't using computer or phone. I had laptop bag on seat. Computer inside. I was keeping daughter amused at various times including playing footsies which she loves to do.

I'm not complaining but the person who made the report made a very simple observation on exiting the train with not much fact of the actual situation.

In this case it was fine. Next time around it could involve police at the destination and that could be more messy.

I was plotting my husbands death and he just texted that he found the below beanie and bought it for me (in diff colour) for Scotland.

I cant wear beanies because of my hair (I prefer ponytails or having my hair up) and this is what he got me.

How can I kill him now? Very excited to try this.

Sure. But if they didn’t see the footsie stuff then they didn’t. Wasn’t implying you were distracted by work stuff but just that you looked more business like than to be with a child.

How many times have people looked back and said ‘if only I’d said something’.

Understood but one's actions could have undesired implications on others.

Just my opinion but so many people these days want to be involved/know everything about things that have nothing to do with them. I grew up in a small town & everyone seemed to know everything that was going on in your life-that is not a small town thing anymore.
I don't need to know the details of every siren/police car going somewhere etc but many seem to want to know. I guess it goes in parallel with people taking offence at things that don't involve them

RB when we lived in Maitland I had a patient that if a fire engine or police car went by with sirens blaring and a taxi was nearby she would get the taxi and follow.o_O
