Ah JohnK, always look on the bright side. Things can only get worse.:)
How did you know?

I was wishing for this year to be over and now I find myself holding on to every minute as the lights have gone out in the tunnel.

Sorry for your loss FM, but will get some blueberries for our bunnies to try.
After we lost Missy, I had a clone made of her (many AFFérs have met our travelling bunny - a great conversation starter)

That’s so beautiful. :). Do try the blueberries - Mr Rabbit adored them and would get a bit cranky if for some reason we didn’t have any :).

Just got back from a great four days in the Vic high country. No phone, no internet, not a single luxury*. Like Robinson Crusoe ...

*Ok, so I did have a 12v coffee machine!

You had some alcohol stash?.

Unfortunately for us at Monument Valley for NYE, no liquor store nearby. Big travel mistake. Should have bought some in Page AZ and smuggled it in to non alcohol Navajo tribal lands...

And, maybe, like Robbie, a fridge running off the second battery on the 4 WD? <ducks>

Since going back into the office Friday/over the weekend, I've been clogged up and sore throat. Gargling helps but not looking forward to tomorrow air con.

Diesel particulate filter. When the light flashes it is not good.
Vee Dub perhaps? Haven't read all of the posts, but when that happened on my Golf Caddy van, I couldn't get a booking for a fortnight, but my mechanic assured my that would not be an issue. Proved true. Suffered a little loss of acceleration in the meantime.

The wonders of technology, am watching CNN live in Times Square New York. Looks cold but nice to watch here.

But is is a dry area? If so you cannot drink alcohol there so buying off site wouldn't make any difference.

Fairwork Australia has a page on this: Welcome to the Fair Work Ombudsman website

Employees can be directed to take annual leave if the company shuts down over, for example, Christmas. This is to be reflected in your agreement when you start.

One option I hadn't thought of is the unpaid annual leave element (mentioned by Fairwork). So if you have used up your leave elsewhere then you have to take Christmas/New year unpaid.
Present employer has covered that one nicely. If any unpaid leave is taken either side of a public holiday then no entitlement to the public holiday.
