Today we were over at Oxford Street in London and I bought 2 smallish bags of fruit. The strawberries had the full taste and the cherries were to die for. These are the tastes we used to get decades ago.
We still do get those flavours in Adelaide but you have to go to the cherry farms and strawberry farms themselves and not from the stores. Interestingly I went to the strawberry farm yesterday in Mt Barker. Pickings were happening all over the fields and the processing shed was in full tilt. Bought some wonderful rich ripe strawberries for a pavlova I’m doing today for an engagement celebration tonight. All of $5 for two large containers. There was also a refrigerated double truck in the yard packing with strawberries - to go to WA and other states. These strawberries are never sold in SA markets.

Anyone buying Trump’s book? It’s on the US Kindle Store.

Oh, cruel memory! Many years ago (like 40 or so!!), even before the mass production and distribution of today, my mum used to have a 'secret' raspberry supplier, 'down the Huon' if I recall correctly, which used to only sell privately. Sort of like Stonewallers for raspberries!

I remember every Christmas period there were those high sided very big pots of raspberry jam brewing on the stove, and raspberries and cream for dessert many nights. You just had to ignore the odd little creature crawling out from time to time.

Cherries today are not quite the same story. If you want the good stuff you can still visit orchards but even there, there are pecking orders; I'm not regular enough to get the very top line fruit, but not too bad.

Add: Then there was dad with a direct line to the scallop boats - Sunday night was curried scallops night, again, cooked in the big pot in creamy curry sauce.

Australians get rubbish fruit on the whole. When we were in Norway a few years ago we totally pigged out on strawberries - used to buy them from the barrows. There was a whole lo of lovely looking strawberries at half price and we asked about them. Apparently they were yesterday’s strawberries, as Norwegians won’t buy them unless heavily discounted. The taste was amazing. You can get decent fruit in Australia, but it’s an effort.

No. Because as much as Trump disgusts me, I refuse to let Bannon profit one cent for me.

They are all ****ers that need to die a CIA stroke during the night.

Not that Pence is any better... Uggh, there goes my Zen again.

I've been taking mum in laws home grown veggies to work, people loving them for the taste and quality. Store bought doesn't compare.

Mango tree looks like lots of fruit this year as well.

Count to 10 Denali ;)

We try to go raspberry picking most summers, cant get better than fresh off the bush.

Growing up in Hawkes Bay, summer (and especially Xmas time) was about going to the strawberry farm and then just down the road was where you got the raspberries and boysenberries. Rule was you could eat as many as you like as you picked. The taste when they are ripe and sun warm is amazing.

Was lucky enough that to get apricots, nectarines and peaches, all I had to do was walk down to our back block! Same with apples and pears.

I rarely buy fruit these days due to the poor taste and quality.

Just down the road from us we pick blackberries off the bushes in summer and then sloeberries off the bushes after the first frost. They're currently in some bottles of gin stewing away to make some sloe gin. Looking forward to trying it when I'm back in the UK later this month!

I used to go along the train tracks near home to get blackberries but they sprayed/removed them all a few years back....

I had hoped that this year was going to be different, guess not, same old stuff being regurgitated.

Why even bother getting upset over stuff you can't change, worry about your own life and things you can change. You obviously have too much time on your hands to be so concerned with what others.are doing, or not doing, do you ever stop and think that it may be none of your business?

Do realise how ironic your post is ? LOL !
