so how much time have you spent on AFF today @JohnK while you're sitting at your desk and appear to be working
I've spent 20-25 minutes on AFF which is my lunch break. I've also looked out the window. Still looking out the window. I'll look out the window again.

I'm happy you're questioning how I'm spending my time. Can you please do the same for the rest? I know who'll come out in front. The guy that solves the majority of issues and doesn't know the meaning of "Cannot Reproduce ". That's me by the way if you're not sure.

Talk to me before you criticise me. I'm highlighting a problem that others have noticed. Asking me to shut up does not solve the problem.

Bought a fan for the bedroom as this weekend is suppose to be hot.

Came all in pieces, wasn't expecting that!

Gosh. Dont think ive been to a library in almost 30yrs!

Its a whole new world! UTAS has squeezed its library almost dry over the past 10 years. Of the 5 floors, only 1.5 now actually contains books and journals - the rest is turned over to study areas for fee paying students, and computers. Most of the stock is now held in storage, so has to be ordered the day before, at least (today's collection is my orders over the past week). There's an unrelenting effort to get you 'on line' and to 'use internet resources from your home'. But the best history stuff from the past 70 years is still in good old paper and ink, especially specialist texts. Although I've spent maybe $2K or more on my history library in the past year, I still need at least 4 volumes from the library most weeks.

That said, I am staggered by the amount of old, obscure material that has been digitised by Google, Gutenberg or one of the other digitisers and downloadable after an easy search. Come across a reference to a court case in 1802 that's relevant; go online, find it, download it, go through it, keep working ... :)

I remember going into a curio store and they had these 100+yr old ledgers.

The hand writing and pages were wonderful!

Understood. There are people that work from home. This is not one of those situations.

What worries me is that people are sticking up for someone they don't know. Oh that Aussie fighting spirit sticking up for the bludgers.

Leave the rest of the discussion alone as it's not going to bring about a solution to the actual problem, which by the way is not me.

Not sticking up for someone I know - just giving some friendly advice based on things I see within my own team. Make of it what you will.

Sorry JohnK but I don't think you understand.

It is nothing to do with supporting the underdog or sticking up for someone they don't know. People are offering you that there are many 'individual' situations catered for during employment. People can be employed to work shorter hours than others but the details, including pay rates are not discussed in public. Some rarely work weekends and others work most weekends. This can be or is an individual relationship between the employer and employee and once again is not discussed with other employees for a variety of reasons.

I have given a specific example of what is happening with more than 1 person in the office as witnessed by multiple senior people in the office. There is no special arrangement. People should be in the office for 7.5 hours and account for at least 7 hours of that time. If I am not happy there should be somewhere I can go to make a complaint or at least an enquiry. My boss' office is always open but not sure that is the right path to take. A few years back one of the GM's had sent an email to everyone in IT reminding them of their obligation to be in the office for at least 7.5 hours. I would hope that I could at least trigger something similar this time around and if the person still takes >2 hour lunches in the short time they are at the office then I will take it further.

You say you know what is going on in your team. Fantastic if you trust them. I don't think you have worked with the type of people employed in my office. Now that Agile is in place if you give them a 2 day task and they finish in 2 hours they will sit around doing nothing until the 2 days are up.

But one thing on my mind in all of this is that I do not want to be the cause of someone losing their job.

Since my nephews grandfather died, btw nephew has downs syndrome, hes been talking about Pop visiting him in his sleep, to give him weather warnings about storms ect.

Nephew was about 10yrs old when his grandmother died, lovely lady. He says Nanna also sometimes visits with pop, to tell him that its going to storm ect. Nephew hasnt mentioned Nanna much in 20+yrs, until recently (when Pop died).

Pop's weather reports are usually spot on and nephew is not googling that stuff or looking at the skies.

Told him to ask Pop for lotto numbers.

I had hoped that this year was going to be different, guess not, same old stuff being regurgitated.

Why even bother getting upset over stuff you can't change, worry about your own life and things you can change. You obviously have too much time on your hands to be so concerned with what others.are doing, or not doing, do you ever stop and think that it may be none of your business?
