The totally off-topic thread

Well no, actually as this is the totally off topic thread I would think that JohnK's observations are right at home here, especially as many other posters have made similar comments.
The intentions are quite clear.

Not feeling well this morning. Had some Holy water. Feeling a little better but the evil is very strong this time.

The OP may have a "different" view of his world , but it is a not uncommon perspective that is better understood than denigrated.

JohnK's perspective is fine - even the 3rd or 4th or 5th time round  :). What's not fine for my humble self are his uneducated comments about 'science'.

Agree, but unfortunately JohnK doesn't seem to think others have the same liberty:

This is the off topic thread. I don't want a scientific debate.

... notwithstanding he then goes off about 'science', while seemingly having little understanding about what 'science' is.

Haighs Factory. Sadly a tourist bus took all the spaces when I was there - damn pesky interstaters :o. But no photography allowed so all good. The factory store was crammed with kids this morning. I see also their branding is changing into blues.

They also provide free machine cappuccino etc.

To be seemingly uneducated is one thing; to continually parade it is something else.
Uneducated from your point of view.

I'll continue to deal with the facts associated with my experiences. If there's ever some doubt in my mind I'll seek the help of a Theologian.

The outside of the factory on Greenhill Road.

I bought a packet of bullets for MrP, and I love em too. Plus when asked about a free sample I tried the milk and dark berrychocs as per @Denali.

Verdict. Ah. You see in SA we also have another legend chocolate maker - Robern Menz who make Fruchocs. And - they are ahem, better than Haighs.

Sometimes the banality here is uber boring but sometimes it is also really funny..
I wish John K well…and lots of luck…
An interesting dichotomy that someone who earns a living from dealing with 1's and 0's (if I understand correctly) would seek such an different source of reassurance...

:) I was impressed with the Haigh and would visit the factory next time in in SA.

I think the room temp choc coated caramel is my fav so far but the berries come close. I would prefer the caramel to be bite size but so good.

The factory store probably has bite size packs. Way more variety than in the stores.

Factory is about 5 mins ride from CBD. Need to book, apparently. Very popular. There is always tourist buses clogging up the street. Easter time - traffic chaos.

I'm not into music much but have heard Spaceman from David Brent a few times this week and it has stuck.

OK; My point of viewing is what I read here ... pretty much the same as everyone else.

I'll continue to deal with the facts associated with my experiences. If there's ever some doubt in my mind I'll seek the help of a Theologian.

Go for it :) :

I believe in the afterlife. I believe in dejavu. And I strongly believe in the evil eye.

Lots of 'em in Cappadocia, Turkey:

Theories with scientific hardware stuff to back it up. Brain scans, other scans, blood tests. Scientists can see in real time the effects of chemical reactions and neurotransmitters (and, well, whatever - I'm not a scientist!). Feeling happy is just a bunch of chemicals doing what they do. And feeling bad is the same, except we try and avoid doing that.

Sure there's a lot more to learn, but out of the entirety of human existence we've only had a few years looking at this. At one time religion, superstition and whatever else was used to try and explain things. Now we have science, and science can step in to assist with all sorts of things, like treating mental illness for example.

The science of all those things is constantly changing. And sometimes we overlook some wonderful advances.
For example Beta blockers have become a mainstay for the treatment of Heart failure for nearly 30 years. However the first report of them being useful was in the 1950s but ignored because it was in an Indian Medical journal. However a few UK physicians did take note and eventually got people to realise the potential.

Part of my original comment was based on the post that said that no one is interested in whether JohnK ate a pork chop or whatever. I was pointing out that there are equally banal (if that's how you view them) comments every day on this thread.

In terms of religion and science, the discussion reminds me a little of the politics threads here and those who stick up for their side/s regardless. No one is going to change anyone else's view no matter how many arguments they put forward. I mostly let the posts that I don't agree with go through to the keeper, unless it something I feel so strongly about I choose to reply (and in the matters of politics and religion I mostly don't)

And Menz are about to start making Violet Crumble. I had only half realised they had gone MIA.

How can Macquarie Dictionary name as its word of the year for 2017 something that no one has ever heard of?

Sadly, there has been the need for some post pruning/adjustment.

Please do not disparage other members of this forum. If you prefer not to see another member's posts you can use this link to set that up:

Now back to normal programming, hopefully off topic ...
