My brother just rang to say that his wife's brother had died of a probable heart attack. That is sad enough for her family, especially his wife & children. (I would only see him once every three or four years so he was not a particular friend of mine).

However, what makes it even more confronting is that he died on a visit to the Falkland Islands. I haven't got the full story but I assume that he and his wife were on a voyage to the Antarctic. Anyway, it appears that his wife is now stranded on the Falkland Islands. I assume he was taken to the local hospital and the ship departed.

Apparently there are only a couple of flights a week from there and she may have to try to get on a military flight to London and then travel home to Perth. So not only has she lost her husband of some 40 years but has a horrendously complicated, and long, path to get herself and his remains back here.

I also hope they had adequate travel insurance.
very sad to hear and hard for her.

I would have thought quite the opposite - I can’t recall the last time I saw a pocket on a business shirt. What purpose do they even serve?

They hold my glasses, or a pen or even my phone. I will not purchase a shirt without a pocket.

Sounds good! We had stuffed mushrooms with oven baked pumpkin, home grown boiled potatoes and broccoli.

I love beetroot, tinned pickled variety or freshly cooked, no matter, I'll eat it all.

The boss makes borsch without beetroot, she says that's how her German forbears made it. Sorry, borsch must have beetroot imo!

MrP insists on having a pocket.

I learnt the other day that (true) coeliac sufferers should not eat grain fed products.

I also don't like to eat grain fed beef, as per feed lots. Do cows really eat grain out in the 'wild'?

Has to be stall free, free range for us, same for beef, it's an easy cop out, but I'd like to think that the animals we eat have had a reasonable life and a 'humane' death, if that is possible.

It's a bit sad when things like this happen, ok so they were going to be killed (presumably) anyway, but still, it's not at all pleasant.

Meanwhile I hand fed some Butcher birds this evening, not all our visiting Magpies will let me do that.

I assume you know of the sinister habits of butcher birds. We lived on acres for 20 yrs & they were responsible for the worst treatment of a fellow bird.
They do have redeeming habits & we loved watching them sunbake on our day beds

Yep, I figure that they are called 'butcher' birds for a reason, still preferable to the dozen or so Currawongs that we have at the moment.. We also try to feed the birds food with calcium, like cheese, sometimes our place seems to resemble a scene from 'The Birds'!

Tweet, tweet, maybe it is twiiter after all.... :)

I actually bought a pocketed shirt the other day. The wife liked the colour.

But ALL of my other work shirts are pocketless, because I hate those pockets. I'm not putting anything in them.
That's what pants are for.

If you are in IT, you carry a full width of little screwdrivers, or pens in it:

Perth weather leading to some interesting flight tracks this evening. This one is QF573, with two go-arounds.

I wouldn’t have been wanting to fly into Perth last night because at some stages in the evening the visibility was low due to the heavy rain. I am not surprised that some planes needed more than one attempt to land.
A great night to stay home is what we did.

My office millenial is still jet lagged, after arriving Saturday morning. He also didnt come into the office yesterday, because of jet lag.
