F+P fridge was first major item mrsdoc and I bought "together" (well before we were married).

Fridge still going strong after 6 moves and 15 years.....

My F+P fridge is also well over 10 years old and still going, though we think the seal might be going as the freezer leaked and filled with frost a few weeks back. All back to normal now though.

Well there is one courier company that we will close our business with after several years.

Last week, After ensuring over the phone that a job would get to Brisbane in time for a work meeting next week (had that not been the case we would make other arrangements) , they rang today and said it wouldn’t be arriving. We all knew the conversations that were had in the office and we could all back each other up. Then they said they had called me on my mobile to say last week it wouldn’t arrive. Mentioned my name (I haven’t spoken to them in years - I am the account holder but I just pay the bills, the office handles all the bookings). Liars. Do they think we don’t talk to each other? Then they said - “what do you want us to do, put a jet motor on the truck! Truck? What truck? Then they hung up.

It's nice to have a win.. we got caught up in the recent snowstorm that bashed the east coast of LOTFAP. After mulitply flight changes we ended up in NYC with more points an an extra 30 SC over what our original booking would have paid..... just noticed that AA have just credited a couple of hundred dollars on my card. Not bad given I haven't raised an issue with AA.

Agreed. It's much nicer to do the daily pokie machine crawl in a Porsche than a 20 year old Toyota Corolla with airconditioning that doesn't work.

You remind me of my bosses son, he obsesses about a family (friends of boss for 20+yrs/kids grew up together) who my boss reckons won lotto or powerball and kept it very, very quite. Like left the country, nice house, nice car, no one seems to have a daily job quite.

Imagine how much happier you will be if you stopped caring about people that dont affect you.

It is not always possible to figure out some other persons wealth. When I was an accountant my wealthiest would drive a 5 year old car and dress in ordinary clothes without any luxury trimmings.
Australian millionaires and multi-millionaires are renowned for being very stringy in fact. Many have show homes and buy the furniture from Amart. I've known a number who just spend money unless they think they are getting a bargain or at least putting one over the seller, who would never spend money on anything but Y airfares, look for heavily discounted hotels all the time, some kept using dialup internet for years and refused to pay the extortionate amount of $15 pcm for wireless dongle and always hire cars from Rent-A-Bomb for $10 per day.

Work has given me a conundrum. A choice of either $8k to spend on travel or $8k cash and 5 days annual leave. The travel choice is tax free but the cash will be taxed. My leave balance is about 15 days after just taking about 10 days, so healthy. Tax wise, I’m in the 37c bracket and not near any thresholds. 800k qff points to help out. Travel will have to be with the entire family (5, 3 under 10). Thoughts on what option you would take and how you would spend the travel component?

Dont forget medicare so the 32% bracket plus 2%. So its $8K tax free (they pay the FBT) or $5K nett plus 5 extra leave days?

How far do you want to travel? Ski holiday in NSW/Vic, QLD theme park for the kids or OS?

Edit: and congrats!

Edited the tax bracket. Yep, just over $5k net plus leave or $8k tax free for travel. I better ask about the FBT implications. Ski holiday looks good but need to investigate if I could do it with the above budget.

Or something local like Fraser Island, saw something on Luxury Escapes the other day. Beach and pool, winter escape would be nice.

For your question, as you earn 1.6 days per month, and personally as I have plenty of leave, I would take the tax free $8K (confirm employer pays FBT). Which I did recently with something I was awarded (its paying for hubby's Jag rental and Edinburgh castle view hotel room etc).

There is a quite illuminating book that I read a long time ago called, 'The Millionaire Next Door'. Back then, a millionaire would have been very wealthy. It helped with useful insight when I dealt with very rich people.

And the wealthiest patient I ever had came in looking destitute.Mrsdrron felt sorry for him and bulk billed him even though not on a pension. He did not even have a home phone. But he did say he rang his broker from a public phone.
He did however bring in his books re share holdings. He was among the top 10 of wealth in Australia at the time.
