My sons oldest friend is Director of Performance Science for the Philadelphia Eagles (SA bred, born and schooled - Go St Andrews, Go Pembroke) and against all odds THEY WON Super Bowl. . Go RADelaide.

His parents now live in Canberra and aren’t listening to the radio so on FB I’ve alerted them as they are replaying his interview in the sports news each hour. Because both commentators are former Crows players they remember James and so are ‘owning’ him.

I was happy to see a "For Rent" sign on the house next door.
<grumpy old lady hat on>
The house has been rented by students/noisy young folks for the past two years who don't seem to understand the difference between a living room and a back deck. The noisy kids this past year have been particularly inconsiderate of the small blocks we're on, how close the houses are, and that some people might not want to listen to their music, or them talking over their music, after midnight.
<grumpy old lady hat off>

As we commented on the sign, and noted new people would be moving in, my Miss 11 said "At least there'll be no more swearing"!! o_O
Guess what upset her the most with the conversations we'd overhear from their back deck??!!

Hopefully I'll have no reason to rock up to the front door at 1am in my PJs with the next tenants. It's quite a contrast - the house on the other side has been empty since June. We've been waiting for construction to start for three houses on that 650m2 block, but not a thing's happened yet.

I remember a ploy by BCC in the Mall late at night, to reduce ratbag activity. They played a range of old crooner music, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra et al. It worked a treat.

A member of that winning team went to my high school. So that was my reason to support them.

Couple of kids (new neighbours) knocked on the door, asking if they can pick a couple of mangoes.

Hubby explains they are too green to eat, they said its for their mum to cook. Hubby says ok, take a couple.

They took every single f'ing mango but 4, which were too high for them.

Entire tree stripped, at least 50 mangoes gone!

Id go and ask for some back. That’s nasty.

That's what I said to the husband but he won't let me.

I'm still thinking about it.

I would go there and nicely say that there must have been a misunderstanding as you only authorised them to take a couple. So, please don’t do that a sort of thing again / could you have most of them back. I guess it depends on the ages of the ‘kids’. But I’d want to nip that trend in the bud.

I did it!

Knocked on the door and asked for mum or dad,explained that the kids were really polite and we really appreciate them asking but they took every mango and that's not being good neighbours and we know people help themselves to the tree but they took everything.

Mum apologized, I said again we really appreciate the kids asking but kids being kids, they went a bit crazy.

THIS is what we got back... Look at them! Too small to be picked! Hardly any flesh on them.

Now I'm scaring hubby, telling him they're most probably going to set fire to the house while asleep.

Got an e-mail today from CBA telling me that they have 'enhanced' (yes, they said 'enhanced') the way I make my home loan repayments. Of course its in response to customers telling them that they want more flexibility ... :rolleyes:

A long e-mail with links to a number of web pages supposedly explaining the changes. A couple of reads later I'm still not sure what's going on, but it seems that two things are happening, both of which seem to go towards lessening the ability for customers to pay their loans off sooner.

1. Weekly repayments are now calculated by (Minimum monthly repayment x12)/52, as opposed to Minimum monthly repayment/4. Hence the amount repaid each repayment and year will reduce a little - you'll take longer to pay off the loan.

2. The amount of surplus repayments you can have in your loan account will reduce the further you get into your loan period. This is the one I don't follow completely. I understand the example they give, but they don't say how that $100K extra I have in my loan account in year twenty, out of 30, reduces to about $70K in year twenty-five. but again, the effect seems to be that you will have to pay more interest than you would have before, as the balance of the loan outstanding (ie actual balance minus surplus funds) will be maintained at a lever higher than allowed before.

We are told to keep extra 'surplus funds' out of the mortgage account and put in in an offset account (where it's much easier to spend ;) )

No-where can I see that these drawbacks are pointed out ... so I must be imagining them, right? :rolleyes:

Of course as a CBA shareholder, who's about to get rid of one mortgage, and should get rid of the other in six months or so, I should be pleased.

Little buggers. Maybe turn some of them (the mangoes, not the kids) into mango chutney.
