Such a waste. Terrible.
Yes it was sad. Both parents a mess. Aunt had broken down and had very little movement and died not long after. Uncle suffered most of his life until he died a few years ago nearly 80. I'd never met him as he was born around the time we left.

No parent should ever have to bury their child.

Of course it was hot in Tassie today.People were complaining here in Burnie when it reached 24.Then again the local paper warns of heatwaves if the temp is forecast to reach 27.
Think of the grapes! Think of the grapes not the humans!

Brisvegas is much more comfortable atm (22.5) , swmbo is greatly amused to see me in a track suit instead of gym shorts and tank top in the evenings.
Once it drops below 20 however , it is winter and serious insulation needs to be considered….
Actually “heating” if below 20!

This isn't really appropriate in a sub-forum for "all non serious talk", but it'll have to do.

Vanessa Goodwin died last week, and her State Funeral was held yesterday. Most here won't know of her, but you may care to go to that story and read through at least some of it (I don't think its pay walled).

The main reason for posting it here is as a foil to those here and elsewhere who rant in the style that "all politicians are crooks, liars and cheats". I've always found such statements just ignorant, and more so when you read about Vanessa Goodwin. The ranters are usually far from paragons of virtue themselves.

I didn't know Vanessa Goodwin, but knew of her. Tasmania is a small place - you soon hear about the time-wasters and self-servers in all professions, but especially politics. Not sure if we have more or less than our fair share in that regard, but people who rise to prominence here can't get away with much. Goodwin wasn't alone in being a good, honest hard-working pollie, but was certainly one of the best. Think of this when you next hear of someone make blanket criticisms of pollies, and then reflect on that person's own virtues.

Ms Saunders said Dr Goodwin was unswerving in her commitment to others, and people who had been touched by her warmth understood the power of the “Vanessa effect”. “She would always steer the conversation away from herself towards other people,” she said.

Ms Saunders said the messages and condolences that flooded through to the family since Dr Goodwin’s passing indicated how far reaching the “Vanessa effect” had been.

“There were messages from former inmates at Risdon prison … and attendees at [last weekend’s] mardi gras were wearing black armbands in her honour”.

The Very Reverend Richard Humphries, who led the service at St David’s Cathedral, said it was testament to Dr Goodwin’s character that she could be the state’s chief lawmaker while also a favourite among inmates at Risdon prison.

“The prison chaplain said that a number of inmates wanted to be here today,” said Rev Humphries, the Dean of St David’s.

“If you have managed to get out I don’t want you to identify yourself…” he quipped.

“But if you got this far, well done … it is well worth coming to give thanks to someone who has championed your cause
”.

Thinking of confiscating husband's credit cards and PayPal account.

And finally delivered the last one of the unused luggage to the Salvos and it was packed with people and they were like meer cats when I walked in with the stuff.

Hope someone enjoys the Delsey.

And since election day every politician who has spoken about her-Libs,ALP,greens and Independents have all said how gracious and humble she was.

Oh and Denali has just confiscated his credit cards :D - shame for a guitar aficionado this auction would be a dream come true !
And Denali’s nightmare and we would read about it here first  Mmm, shame he’s not a member. Might be fun to do a stir.

I saw a $2.5K+ invoice on his desk yesterday, another thing he "needed".

So Crowe finally making the divorce legal? I though they were happily unmarried but legally married.

Where has he been storing the life sized prop horses?

Looking at all the Gretschs, what did he do, walk through the show room and say I'll have that one and that one and that one?

Did he actually play them because you need to play them, hear them, get the feel before you bond with it.

And the Johnny Cash stuff should be in a museum. $300K for an award thats not even in Crowes name is just weird and I'll give the leather jock strap from Gladiator a miss.

My husband just asked me about registering for the auction  ( because we're in Scotland auction day).

I told him hes banned from buying anything else after yesterday.
