I haven't heard much said about Commonwealth Games next month and was surprised to see this invitation when I got home tonight.

I am not sure what is available, if anything left, but closing ceremony could be worth it. Anyone else receive similar invitation?
That would be a scam @JohnK

But tickets are still available.

Go to www.gc2018.com

Or ticketek website

Don’t search commonwealth games tickets.

Closing ceremony would be at least $250 each

Like the Olympics these athletic events are hardly ever sold out. You would also be able to get tickets to individual events

Or go to App Store and get official GC2018 app as the portal for tickets

I see OC, beach volleyball, swimming, and netball and a few others are sold out.

They would have to pay me And fly me up in J to watch rhythmic gymnastics or lawn bowls.
Is synchronised swimming still in?

Rhythmic gymnastics with the ribbon thing is pretty but I wonder about the damage the young girls are doing to their bodies.

You have to embrace the less popular sports and get into it. 2000 we went to Pakistan v India hockey and there was a bit of a war on getting us to cheer for their side, we were surrounded by pakistanians and indians, beating drums, cheering, having a great time.

Wheelchair Rugby was the highlight of the para games, fantastic sport.

My friends family got kicked out of a Tassie lawn bowl comp (their dad was playing) because they were cheering too loud, doing the mexican wave, holding up signs ect. Quite during the play but their cheering was "not keeping with the sport" and they were asked to leave.... so they cheered from the car park. Dad had recently retired and diagnosed with cancer, lawn bowling was his new thing - his kids were at every game for him.

That’s nice. From whom? You sure it’s legit? I’d say closing ceremony seats long gone but worth a try.
From the Star Gold Coast who are an official partner. Looks legit enough. Nice glossy pamphlet. I'll give the VIP concierge a call and see what is available. I don't have any free time during the week and I am in Thailand the first week. See if any evening events are closer to Brisbane.

I get that many sports are a judged sport - even cricket,

However I baulk at the validity of judging when its also beauty contest - usually when there is “artistic impression” or when costume deductions occur.

London olympics should have had Darts. Many venues all over GB and the Poms would have won.

My daughter used to do high level gymnastics. The coach wanted her to go national but that would have involved 40 hrs a week. I asked him what is at the end. He said many join a circus or Cirque. o_O

Sayonara. Don’t need 40 hours/week. And many of the parents were psycho. So not my scene.

Took my driving test 40 years ago on my 17th birthday, I had a Leyland Mini and the inspector was a VERY large gent. I think he was in a hurry to get out of such a confined space. I had been driving semi's and table top trucks since I was 14, so the exam was a walk in the park for me.
Many pages back we discussed getting our first cars, this is me many years ago servicing my car. Our back yard was concrete, to get the trucks in off the street.

Back then women were on the bonnet, so under the bonnet would not have been de rigeur :).
Did the Leyland Mini have power steering?.

But I don’t understand the tool selection

What’s all the bad juju coming out of Victoria?.

Hep A is highly infectious.

A couple of years ago Id parked my car at the gym and was making my way inside when I noticed a lady in a large SUV trying to reverse park next to me. I say trying, as she was heading half towards the empty spot, and half towards my car. So I stopped to watch. She obviously wasn't enjoying the audience and asked me what the problem was, so I told her I was watching to make sure she didnt hit my car. "But I have reverse sensors!". My response was that they clearly weren't helping  One of the staff from the gym came out to see what the problem was, I repeated that I was making sure she didnt hit me (having being hit twice in that carpark before), he nodded, watched with me, then off we went when she finally made it in to the spot o_O

Parents of swimmers go above and beyond. Those early morning starts. It’s difficult if the kids have talent and really want to do something. Whose decision does it become then? If your daughter had really wanted to have progressed, would you have refused?

That photo could be the main page of a truckers magazine ;)

I was driving a truck in Terang when I was child. On a visit to Dads mothers house over school holidays I went for a few days to a large dairy farm. Mum didn’t drive - she crashed into a gate when learning and she and her parents panicked. Stupid. So after the dairy farm visit I was taught to drive a manual truck at 12 as they herded to cattle and dropped off the hay. Mum was shocked. Sadly I wasn’t allowed to visit the farm again.

I parked on the road in the local shopping centre once (quite a busy road) and was about to get out of car when I hear a horn beep. An older lady approached my window and asked if I could move forward so her daughter can park the car. When I looked behind I see her daughter had driven into the spot behind me and there was no way she would be able to park that way into that space. So I moved but made sure she did not hit my car.

LOL. She did not even attempt to reverse park.

As a parent I did something completely left field. I exposed said gymnastics daughter to other sports and activities then let her choose rather than say you can’t do this. She chose wisely:)

This streaming of kids into one sport at an early age is so stupid.

It’s hard to isolate the interests of the child from that of the parent. Don’t underestimate the motivation of some kids to do things.

Living vicariously is a common lifestyle

Yes kids are can be motivated by different influences. That’s why kids should play different sports and let them find their place.

However all school kids should play sport. Especially those selective school kids. Academic awards should have a sport eligibility criteria - cannot have academic award unless also playing sport

@JohnK is it easier for women to get to the top in golf than men?

Kids should play whatever sports they want to; if that means they just want to play one then that’s it. With TV now they have exposure to all kinds of activities, we don’t need to direct them to do that. I disagree totally with your comment that Academic awards need to have some kind of sport criteria. That might work for some but not all.
