Yes missy! We took a gamble yesterday, and let the road take us where it took us... found a cool place near Whakatane.

Anyhou, get a move on girl we've gotta get ready!

You are sitting next to me using the free wireless in the hotel yet you tell me via the internet to get ready?!

My turn to drive today!!!!!

Cheers guys.. was nice knowing you all

That's it Flashware. You're so in for it.......

I was holding a colourful map of the North Island. The top of the South Island was shown but in white. Flashware pointed to it and asked if that was Antartica.

LOL cross posting whilst in the same room - classic:!:

D1, I'm rather shocked at your Antarctica gaffe...unless it was meant for, say, a mother-in-law joke (but you're not married, so it can't be). :p :D

At least it isn't as cheesy as sending someone an email when they're two desks down from you.

Anyway, a very quick question. My flight on Saturday morning is BNE-SYD operated by a 767-300. This is a non-ZX type I believe, because the seat map doesn't show it as having the mini 2-row Y cabin at the front.

The other type of 767-300 has row 23 as the front (seats AB and JK); row 24 is the first "full" row (and the first row of seats that are DEF). IIRC the bulkheads in the AB and JK seats are completely solid from top to bottom, and don't offer much leg room. ISTR the DEF seats have a cut-out at foot level in the bulkhead. But I can't remember all of this as it has been a while since I've flown on a 767 of this type.

So which is the best seat to pick? 23B is the only row 23 seat left, but 24 everything except B and K. I selected 24D (first row of middle section). Not phased about not having a view. Yes I'm aware that the flight is only 90 minutes...

Since it's a morning flight, viewing of the A seats won't be very good; other than that I find at 6' row 23 on these aircraft fine for a short flight.

Note there is no cut out at the floor for row 23 - it's a wall on the -338's.

Finally, the ZX's have no row 25 but do have cut outs at the floor for the row 23 seats (26 is a wall like row 23 on the 338's.

So I guess I'll stay in 24D, then. Thanks serfty.

Crown Metropol, Melbourne

The Crown Metropol Hotel, Melbourne has it's grand opening as I blog this;-

Crown Metropol Hotel | Red carpet launch for new hotel

I stayed there over the weekend and I must admit, it is a really trendy hotel :) :) I'll do a complete review of the place in the Hotels thread in the next couple of days but for now it is given my two thumbs up!!

Also TripAdvisor agrees with my two thumbs up, and the Metropol has already sky-rocketed to 5th ranking after only two'ish weeks being open.

it is now 727 pm do i continue reading the new posts or get ready to watch hey hey ( i still have 10 mins) or prepare for pacific at the latter time

Look forward to reading the reviews, specially having checked out the website and info for the place after your post.

For a property of that age, location & quality in MEL the prices are brilliant IMHO. AUD189 for 30d advance booking in Loft rooms (25% on rack).

Love the Iphone even more now; I can check in with Qantas. ;)

I checked in with my Nokia N73 (running Symbian S60). Got my square barcode in the SMS, which opens a link to a secure site with the image.

I'm going to get a regular BP tomorrow just in case the mobile barcode doesn't work.

Of course, can't change your seat online (it goes with the one you chose in advance, or probably auto-allocates you if you didn't chose a seat in advance / equipment change / upgrade), but still a nice feature. I wonder how hard would it be to implement seat selection on the mobile device.

One wouldn't think it can't be that hard, a little bit of javascript that reports back to amadeus just like full OLCI, use the on screen cursor in the web browser (symbian) or of course your finger (touch devices)

The problem is that Javascript is expensive - irrespective of platform but can get worse on mobile devices!

I was thinking more of a table of radio buttons. It won't be elegant, plus I'm not sure (programming and memory wise) how effective this would be.

Images can always be set up to act as radio buttons, make it look a bit fancy, they could always be maroon circles or something like the seat selector on TT's booking engine

I now completely comprehend why you check and recheck the online checkin tool till you find the best seat. For this mornings flight I've successfully moved myself up from a pre-allocated 30F yesterday to 23D in the mini-cabin this morning.

I see this seat has limited space in front, and reduced seat width, but I'm not going to be stretching out so don't think I'll need it. I think this is a pretty good seat choice for an NB?!

Only wish I could checkin for the impending JQ flight too.

Came through DJ security this morning to speed through and forgot with no one else I'd likely get an explosive test. Guy says to me, "would you be happy to participate" to which I say "not really but I don't have a choice now do I?".

Check is done in record time then he gives me a look and says "I hope you find something you enjoy doing today". WTF! Of course I don't want to do an explosives test, no one does. You ask a silly question you get a realistic answer.

Should I have humoured him? "yes I'd love to do an explosives test, it's the highlight of my morning!".

The whole exchange depends a lot on the mood and how the messages you said above are conveyed.

If everything was all done with a bit of jest, then I guess there is no bad in all of it.

A bit odd that they ask "if you are happy" to do the check. As you said, you don't have a choice. I know the first thing the QF side people say (not a QF thing, I'd believe) - most of the time - is, "Excuse me Madam/Sir. This is a random test; have you done this before?"

Outside of Australia I'd be a bit more scared to make a joke out of the exchange.

23D on a -336 is fine - there's a foot level cutout in the partition between you and the J cabin.

Must be the weekend for it, we've snagged 4ab tomorrow. Took some doing though.

Interestingly, qp seems to make a difference for seat selection as mrsdoc could choose 4ab and heaps of forward seats . I could get 5e or 7a as the most forward seats. Different bookings non-linked on same flight. Mrsdoc qp ps, me just ps.
