The totally off-topic thread

Veering dangerously close to topic I know ... I'm currently at the MEL DJ lounge and it's really quite pleasant and peaceful. If only more airport lounges were like this!

And what spirits do they serve there? :D

Have you ever seen the Bert'n'Ernie cartoon series? Seriously weird. I was watching tv a few weeks ago and managed to find it being shown. Very strange.

No I haven’t, but they do have a gay character on Sesame Street these days anyway so I guess they didn’t want Bert and Ernie to come out of the closet just yet.

Keith,

Don't worry about it as some people are carrying on  about something that is not going to happen.

While I know that certain people on FT like to shutdown discussion on certain matters when it doesn't fit in with their world view, that does not mean it was not an idea worth throwing out there.

Absolutely no disagreement from me.

Have just realised that next year Anzac day falls on easter monday. In view of a recent discussion on public holidays here recently this may cause some angst.Last time Easter Monday was april 25 was 1859-no problem then.;)

So there is a precendant. If Anzac Day falls on an Easter Monday then either Anzac Day or Easter Monday should be observed as a public holiday on the Tuesday.

...or do what WA is doing and proclaim a special holiday. Can't argue about which day was moved!

So... a few people have contacted me (via means off-line) and suggested I shouldn't go. I think maybe that would be a good idea, however I do need to take some form of break. Shall see you all in the not too distant future.

Well rethought indeed.:)

Ordered yens today - 74.4200 yens to the AUD$. Travelex online rate was good, but looked at the market rates over the weekend and they crashed so jumped on first thing this morning and ordered my cash.

Walked by some exchange places on the way to work - selling at between ¥68 & ¥72 to the dollar. Good time to buy.

Oh, and can anyone tell me what the max current draw is on a business seat power supply on a 330-200? I have this 9 hour flight coming up and I thought I might pass the time by machining some ornamental replacement legs for my piano stool so I was gonna bring my lathe on board - will it work straight or will I need an adaptor?

Stuck in Brisbane this week without my laptop :( as I did not want to take it overseas with me and I did not really want to leave it in Brisbane for 2+ weeks while I am away.

There are so many things that need to be done.

Great question. It's always something I've been itching to do while on a plane. Knocks the socks off knitting, using a sewing machine or reading a book.

I presume the adapter is only up to 75W, so you could have some dramas. Can you get a pedal version instead? Think of all the exercise you'll get.

Now the other problem is whether you can fit the lathe into the baggage lockers. You probably couldn't, so you'd have to buy it an additional seat.

Lastly, it's probably classed as a weapon - or at least your big chunks of timber will be. So you might have to instead set it up in the baggage hold and work down there. Ask the friendly captain before you board.
