There's nothing stopping karens from trying to check-in (most likely denied). dropping bag off at Left Luggage (downstairs in Intl terminal near McDonalds - $10 for 6 hours, $15 for 10 hours), heading to T3 and using the QP there. With some blagging, use of the Qantas International transfers bus could be possible, otherwise it's ~$5 via bus each way (or train - but I think you have to buy the ticket at the counter for the $5 transfer)

I'm liking your thinking.

If landing at 5.30, prob 7.30 before you'd get there.. might be an idea, and ask her if she can put a note that you'd like a v. early check-in if available:!:

The hotel woman I spoke to didn't seem to grasp that I would pay for the Monday night but check in Tuesday morning. Am dropping the Monday night off the reservation. I need a stiff drink.

Yes the SIN QF/BA F Lounge is a little ordinary. What time was he at the lounge? I was there until 7:45am this morning.[/QUOTE]
I think he was there from 9- 11 otherwise I'm sure you would have spotted him as he is a large and green

Seems like Darwin was the winner.

Awesome, next year I will be able to go and tie it in with a work trip. Not sure how many will go with no lounge available at any hotel!

Hehe, I spent a few minutes looking for such a hotel. Not sure where I will stay - maybe the CP or one of the HI.

Bashing my head against the desk today, crying kids interrupting well needed sleep on the train this morning (not world cup induced), and now doing battle with Google Analytics, asynchronous code and event tracking.

Not a great start to a Monday.

That'll teach you guys in Perth to have a work day while the rest of us 'celebrate' Liz's birthday :D

The HI Esplanade is my favorite, good views of the harbour and well located even if the rooms are tired, always been underwhelmed by the CP (its the old Sheraton) while the Vibe/Medina on the waterfront is backpacker city. The Casino needs a good reno (which the older HI just had) which I believe its getting and might get back to 5 star one day but its out of town, and this week the beach out the front almost had a tourist taken by a croc:

Despite my many trips there (one in week or so) I am still to get to the Mindil markets or Kakadu, both no doubt on the list for Ozfest!

I got to the airport about 1430. Was allowed to check in :D Was given a J tag woo!

Used a spare express pass to zoom through customs then put it away for security. Am at the QP now.

Now to wait for my flight at 2100.......

And yes, there is some table service. Was given a delightful smoked salmon plate.

This may be a little out of place here but I need to mention the passing of my cousin (Professor William J Mitchell) who was one of the greatest people I have ever known and an absolute genius. The person who I played with as a kid in Coburg, who told me that Dim Sims were made from cats and who went on to become the Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning at MIT, Boston.

My condolences for the passing, but what a great life he seemed to live and an impact he seemed to have on no doubt a lot of people.

That's sad news straitman. Read both of them and viewed the video link in the first one. I can see the family resemblance betwen you and him.

Makes me think that having my LFT, TST and PSA blood test on Friday was a good thing - now to find out the results.

My thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time straitman.

My condolences for the passing, but what a great life he seemed to live and an impact he seemed to have on no doubt a lot of people.

My sentiments exactly. :)

Having just stayed at HI Esplanade for 5 nights a couple of weeks ago, I can agree they are great - staff were friendly and enthusiastic. Reports from others staying at CP were less than complimentary. There's a great restaurant just out of the plaza too (not part of the hotel).

Major drawback of the HIEsp is the "tired" bathrooms. Otherwise all good.

Mindil markets is fun but i;m not sure i'd go there every time. Mind you, there's not a massive variety of choices of entertainment within a short distance of the CBD (it's not that big a town). And the sunset VIEW from the beach is pretty good on a clear day (which is 99% of dry season days).

Am currently lounging in the BA Gatwick F lounge. The staff at Gatwick are so much happier, friendlier and more customer service orientated than Heathrow.

Oh, and NM - they still have JW Blue.

And I am in the QF SIN F lounge.Hasn't changed a bit since last qualified to visit-mores the pity.
