Welcome back and welcome to the club.
I am at the other end of my career having retired(?) 4 years ago and now enjoying locums-funds all my travel.definitely if you are not tied down with family get out there and enjoy life. The locum life I find very rewarding.

I'm figuring that I'll do a mix of medical retrieval at 0.25 FTE and then teach (I am working in a medical simulation job at the moment) and locum around that. I don't have children (and do have a very understanding partner), and review of specialist locum work at the moment seems to suggest that there's more than enough work to support me, as well as allow me to work all over the country, which I would enjoy. I really look forward to more work travel - I seem to meet interesting people when I hit the road!

And that sort of arrangement would suit me perfectly - lots of flexibility, challenging work environments and travel. Very much looking forward to the next few years ahead.

Why not? TESL has funded a lot of my travel (at the pointy end) over the last 10 years, in partic. the last 6 years;)

I think it's that I've seen a lot of dissatisfaction amongst staff specialists where I have been, and the experiences of those that are fighting to get those staff specialist positions in recent years that has led me away from that. I've always been one not to compete, but instead to find my own niche, something that other people hadn't thought of, and fit myself in there. That's why the locum/retrieval/teaching thing seems like a good thing for me at the moment.

It does mean I'll forgo TESL, yes, but I can live with that. CPD requirements should still make my travel a self-education expense.

Just had the yummiest thai fish curry ever at a friends place last night. I will be feeding their dogs for them when they're away on holidays so had to do meet the 4 legged suspects & find out who gets fed what.

For dessert we had fresh mango with boysenberry ice cream which was delicious.

Saw some family photos and on sighting a rather formally dressed couple enquired "are they your parents"? "No, that's my King and Queen" -as in Thai Royal Family.

Home, maybe all this should have been in a separate thread as I kept adding bits as I went along. Now just waiting for the checked bag to come out.

Generally it takes me

Where does it take you? :p

I was wondering what happened to that post. I'm having a few strange things with some posts in the iphone app. That one just seemed to disappear.

Anyway what I wanted to say regarding lunch is that OHS requires one to have a 30 minute break. That is the good thing about flexi time in that I generally add the 15 minutes onto the end of the day. Well at least when I had to do timesheets

Has anyone ever had to submit an ethics proposal for research? Seriously, after writing two right now, I'm going stark raving mad trying to sort them out. I don't know why people want to do research with having to submit this sort of stuff. Never again.

No but I have to write radiation risk assessment reports for research proposals. Reading the proposal for that does my head in, let alone actually writing one.

Shrek is the expert in our family on this. I stick to seeing patients, teaching and avoidance of Quality at all costs ;)

Really? Just as well no one asks for timesheets at work. Just have to log hours for the time worked....

Yep. It is actually the employer who must give a 30 minute break after 5 hours worked. So always best to have official records that say 30 minutes for lunch despite the reality.
