You will often find these are associated with new aircraft so it makes sense.
markis10 do you have any idea why that would be? after all these planes have all been flown thousands of km's on delivery flights etc so it wouldn't just be the case of electrical circuits and air conditioning being powered up for the first time would it?

"Givusset back! Go on givusset!"

Can only laugh when I hear someone say it....

Well just finished up on the 60th party for the father in law and a 40th cake and song for me. Got one eye shut while typing this and I'm coughking p!ssed.

I suspect its a case of things settling down, a bit like a car running in, its probably the landings that upset things the most with seals around the bleed air possibly not being fitted properly?? I am not sure, just notice its normally newer aircraft that seem to be most affected when its not a particular type issue such as those with the BAE146 and 757.

Not sure if this has been reported elsewhere but a little birdie at DJ tells me that their latest all white 737-800 VH-VUZ declared a pan -pan and returned to Melbourne today after fumes were reported in the coughpit,I think they have only had the aircraft about a week!

Saw this a/c on the ground at BNE this morning - looked like it was taxiing towards the terminal approx 0830 as we were airborne on a BNE/DRW flight.

Couldn't get the rego at the speed we were at but noticed it had a navy blue stripe down the fuselage with AFL insignia on it. Wonder if this a/c will be used specifically to ferry around AFL teams, if so do the seats have super dooper leg room?

Incidentally we had a go-around on our first approach to DRW on RW29 this morning. I was sitting on the right hand side of the plane & could spot the usual landmarks like Robbo Bks etc then the visibility became sh!te & could barely see the ground & was thinking "gee I hope the Skipper's got a better view than I have" next thing he gave it the berries & round we went. Did a few orbits over Howard Springs for about 10 mins then came in for another go which was successful this time so we still arrived on time.

I know it's not much compared to some others, but I just hit over 100k points on QFF for the first time! :D

On Wednesday, I will have a sit down with a representative from the logistics company that contracted the idiot removalists who left my stuff in a container next to Oxley Creek during Brisbane floods, and start to discuss the compensation. How much fun have I had with all the quoting and cough recently, trying to get my paperwork ready to prove how much they should be giving me.

I am kind of hoping they look at the sheer variety of things that were lost, and just give me a cash payment. Then I can add it to my QFF credit cards for the repurchasing and get points AND shiny new stuff.

Finally, on a completely different topic.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!

I totally got loved up on Valentines Day. I just wish Interflora would have removed my pants and asked politely before they visciously pummeled my delicate parts. Retardedly expensive compared to just walking into a florist in the home country and organising a delivery. Unfortunately, they are still cheaper than the plane ticket required to get to the home country in the first place.

Speaking of Valentines Day, I was in the JAL F lounge at NRT last night and they were giving a small cake upon entry as Valentines Day present.

The lounge was near empty, I think there were only 3-4 people there.

Am currently in the SYD domestic J lounge and it is full, seems like all the flights are 30-40 minutes late.

For the record, plane door (QF22) to domestic J lounge, 20 minutes. Well done SYD AP staff.

On that note, I can highly recommend Flowers Online With Ready Flowers - Same Day Flowers Delivery (no affiliation, i've just used them a bit).

I decided to surprise my Mother who was on holidays in the Netherlands at the time, based in a small town in the very south Roermond.

Logged on at around 9am Melbourne time, ordered a selection for her, and requested it be delivered to the address she was staying.

6-8 hours later, I got an email from the people she was staying with saying 'some flowers just arrived for your mum. How on earth did you find this florist? They're a way out of town and known for their excellent flowers!'. That sealed the deal for me. Apparently they were beautiful.

They don't seem to charge any more to send overseas than they do locally, but they're not that cheap for local stuff either. Flowers just seem to be one of those expenses that you suck up as they bring joy to others, and they know it!.

Oh and if you do use them, do a quick google search for discount codes. It's quite easy to find 10/15/20% off codes for these guys. I've used them to send stuff in Perth regularly as well (back home to my parents) and have seen several of the deliveries. Really nice stuff. One bunch can be seen here

and congrats on the 100k points. I kinda wish I had a tally of all the points i've used/burned over the years. It's gotta be up around the 2 million by now (WP 100% bonus sees your points rack up real quick when doing lots of international travel)! Onwards to more points for you :)

My points balance at one time was just over 200k at its highest. It would only be so for a few days before it was cut back down close to 0. ;)

If I tallied all the points I've earned over my QFF membership, I don't think they'd tally up to even 500k.

Silly question time.

Some email programs have a feature to provide a return receipt when the person opens the email. Why isn't the person the email addressed to have any say in the matter?

Classic example. Some moron sends me spam email from a non-existent email address yet receives notification when I open the email and continues to bombard me with spam.

Return receipt has got to be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen in computer software. Does anyone know if it is possible for the recipient to turn off return receipt notification?

Now let's not get too carried away. It's a case of a feature which had good intent, has good use but has been used maliciously.

From what I can tell, usually if someone sends you a message and has flagged to expect a return (read) receipt, you have an option of refusing to send it (your mail client normally gives you a choice, and those that don't give you a choice don't auto-respond in the affirmative - quite the opposite).

For example, I send a test email from MS Outlook 2007 to myself (Exchange mailbox) and my Gmail address and request read receipts. I receive the first email in my Exchange mailbox and Outlook prompts me if I want to send a read receipt (and rather ironically has a check box asking if I never want to be asked the question again). I also get in my Exchange mailbox a delivery notice which tells me that Gmail is incapable of responding to read receipt requests (at least from my Exchange mailbox), so it tells me that there probably won't be anything more coming.

On the other hand, I'd imagine that a spammer doesn't need you to send a read receipt in order to keep spamming you. They would simply send an email and if it bounces back then it doesn't work.

if you are using Microsoft Outlook, go to Tools/Options, then select E-Mail Options under the Preferences tab. Then select "Tracking options" and at the bottom of the window you can choose:

Use this option to decide how to respond to requests for read receipts. Only applies to Internet Mail accounts:

  • Always send a response
  • Never send a response
  • Ask me before sending a response

Most email clients allow this. However, browser-based email access such as from your ISP or Hotmail etc may not have that option.

Now let's not get too carried away. It's a case of a feature which had good intent, has good use but has been used maliciously.
And the malicious use is what concerns me. If someone wants to use the feature then make it an extremely hard to get to option rather than the default option.

And there in lies the problem. I don't believe I can change the option with Hotmail.

At that rate we should eliminate all forms of greater networks, i.e. the Internet for a start.

AFAIK, Hotmail does not support read receipts.

You have to love 2011 as a QLD based frequent flyer, having had to change two trips earlier in the year owing to Qantas no longer operating flying boats and ROK being under water, a later trip being delayed owing to the BNE floods, I am now looking at changing my current trip by ending it early as there is now a Cyclone alert for DRW  .

Correct. The only time they work is when an email is received via an Exchange Server. Postfix/sendmail ignore this. It's purely an MS implementation (as is the 'recall' capability, for a sender to 'recall' an email sent in error; I've seen some doozies come thru to my inbox before that they attempted to 'recall' and of course, were not, as I do not use any microsoft products in my server network ;)).
