ARGH!
Woke up, called in sick to work (can't walk = problematic), and at 6.45am after I've fallen back asleep phone starts ringing. Smack phone, hits floor, stops ringing... (effective!). Shortly after I've fallen asleep again, phone rings again. It's mother dearest, so gets answered.

****ing Diners card people ringing at 6.45am, apparently when I didn't answer mobile they rang my parents' home number, listed as contact since I only have mobile. Is it some urgent problem? Had my card been hacked or stolen? No, the rewards points request I put in 3 weeks ago has a problem... GRRRR!

And of course listed next to the phone number in their system is my address, which clearly states WESTERN AUSTRALIA. Is the time difference REALLY that hard to calculate??? Another negative mark against Diners in my book - I only keep the card due to lounge access and no fees.

Just found a flight combination on QF online for my conference trip to the UK:
  • Outbound
    • 07MAY QF615 BNE-MEL dep 0955 arr 1220
    • 07MAY QF009 MEL-LHR dep 1530 arr 0540+1 stop SIN
  • Inbound
    • 16MAY QF010 LHR-MEL dep 2130 arr 0500+2 stop SIN
    • 18MAY QF604 MEL-BNE dep 0705 arr 0915
Total cost is $2237 + $30 for c/c, although at the moment I'm still wondering a bit whether I should hold out, so I gambled and put it on "Book Now Pay Later". I figure the loss of $25 should it come down to it is not completely a waste (compared to over $2000).

It seems like the competition (except for the outliers like BI) are doing better, and I really want to get some ow runs on the board (and since the grant I have will fund up to $3000...but the less I spend on flights the less that eventually I dig out of my own pocket).

So what do you think - not a bad deal? Or should I hold out for a sale / find a TA to try and smack that price down?

Yeah...I know...silly question in essence.... perhaps I'm just insecure... :( :(

One problem is the SCs are kind of bad on those long haul flights with the same number.

The miles you get aren't bad if you need to make a few JASAs to requalify.

The temptation of a single flight and A380 all the way kind of nullified my pursuit of a mere 20 extra status credits.

Also, don't forget ; even if you don't stay the gap between and go to the 2nd conference you should add on a few extra days. YGM.

Apparently my BNE-ROK flight tomorrow is a Fokker 100. I have never been on one of those aircraft before so should be a good experience. I was pre-allocated 3E (?, apparently aisle on 3 seat side) but switched to 1B.

Oh, and I was pre-allocated an exit row (1B) on the Dash-8 (400 series) ROK-MKY flight later in the day.

I shall see if I can get anytime access in MKY on Saturday evening so I can use OLCI for Sunday's return flights. ;)

Legroom on the Fokker100s are quiet good, no IFE but still a nice aircraft to travel in.

Depends when the last flight leaves Mackay whether you can access the lounge in Mackay to use the computer to check in for your return flight.

Maybe you need a smart phone so you can check in via mobile.

Dropping one car off at ~5:00pm and picking up another car. I think the lounge should be open at that time.

The smart phone is switched off and sitting at home in SYD! ;)

I could be wrong but I don't think mobile broadband works in Mackay unless one pays roaming rates. Does McDonalds have free wi-fi?

I use my Telstra broadband modem in MKY with no problems.
I have my doubts about Vodafone though.

I live ~10kms from the city in Sydney and I can only get EDGE and sometimes 3G, which are both useless for mobile broadband. I hardly ever get HSUPA and HSDPA.

Living in the city in Brisbane I usually get HSUPA dropping back to 3G occasionally.

This is really, really OT just watching Robin Williams on CBS Letterman, v.funny ( joke about offending Australians) a must watch if it's on soon in Oz
Cheers :)

Is there a like button for that :) I had spinal surgery in November and during my recovery managed to acquire a decent post count ;)

And then there were none.

After a couple of months of intensive travel (mainly personal) I have returned from the Avalon Air Show tonight and now there are no flight bookings. :(

Still I only have 300 SCs left to get by end Nov to retain WP.

I'll look for a *Class fare to BKK or SIN if work travel doesn't pick up.

Well you better book a return flight to Darwin for Ozfest to arrive by Friday 27 May departing on or after Sunday 29 May.
