LiamR + others, I feel and share your concern - I have had a pathological fear of IV's (and having blood tests) since I was 13. I shudder just thinking about the reason and break out in a cold sweat. Waking up in the middle of an operation and tapping my anaesthiologist on his hand (because I couldnt scream from the pain with a tube down my throat). That is enough....

My worst experience subsequently was sitting next to my wife in my doctors surgery and being told by my doctor that I needed to have blood tests - I fainted there and then, woke up wondering why I was looking up at them and needless to say, a bit

I've had some strange looks from doctors and nurses - I was in the Wesley Hospital having a PET scan and when the nurses tried to inject me, my blood pressure went through the floor and because of the decaying nature of the ingredients in the injection, I told them the only way they were going to get it into me was via my foot. They had to run around to find a doctor who had ever done one there - none of the nurses had.
Sounds like you had an episode of awareness with the anaesthesia. .. No good

If they bring their prescription pad - definitely :D

(That is a joke btw for anyone taking it too seriously)
I'm told my blank prescription pads are worth over $100k each on the black market....and I have about a dozen lying around!! PS. In case you are wondering, they are "not for sale"... a career ending move I would have thought!

Thanks for the medical explanation for my brilliance after downing a lot of champagne.

Handy websites for researching flight schedules

Just curious as to what websites AFFers use when researching flight schedules (non-airline specific) between city pairs.

When I used Galileo ages ago I remember there was an entry that would display inbound or outbound flights from a particular airport. From memory the entry was DC*KTM/I or DC*KTM/O where KTM (Kathmandu) represents the city code.

I was looking at www.flightstats.com which has a real time arrivals and departures board for the current day which gives you an idea of the airlines that fly in and out & what city the flight is to/from.

Would be interested to know what you guys use.

Apologies in advance for venturing too on topic.

If i don't know which airlines fly in and out of an airport I google the airport for the area I am going to.

Drunken medico's would be useful??

Given that many doctors' training & work has them dealing with emergencies at end of shifts, multiple casualties or problems in the one person etc, they are used to having a lot of balls in the air at the same time, often when really knackered. I think an intoxicated experienced medico would likely still give a better outcome than not.

If I'm out somewhere & in an accident & a doc pulls over to help on their way home from a party - let's say they are a passenger in their car - would I let them help someone I love? Hell yes!!

Sounds like you had an episode of awareness with the anaesthesia. .. No good

Yes, I was aware alright :o - aware of the enormous amount of pain I was experiencing from the surgery and I was through the roof - if I could have moved or talked, he wouldn't have been doing either shortly thereafter.

He hadn't given me enough coughtail and I just burnt through it (I was at my fittest playing 4 sports/year at that point). He was a family friend, so I didn't hold it against him. Just made sure that every anesthetist subsequently has been crystal clear on my lack of desire to wake up again ;)

Apple have named their app of the year as 'Instragram'. There's apparently 140,000 Iphone apps out there.
