Interesting idea. Former ALP left faction member to lead the Liberals and the Liberals to agree to merge with the national party. The former is more likely, IMO.

It makes sense from an LNP POV. The country wants the LNP but doesn’t want Abbott, they also want Rudd. So Rudd takes the LNP to power, before they stab him in the back, and someone else takes power. Win-win so long as Gillard nor Abbott do the stabbing.

On another note, does the Liberal National Party suggest it’s more National, so would the National Liberal Party be more fitting for the Liberals?

I think my point was the LNP only exists in Queensland. In the rest of the country it is a coalition of the Liberals and the National party. So Rudd would have to lead the Liberal Party. It will be a cold day in hell when Rudd (left fraction) leads a merged national LNP.

Given that the National party has always been the stronger party in Queensland of course it is the NLP. However, I dare say LNP was used to get the rest of the Liberal party on side.

And of course there was Joe Lyons.Labour premier of Tasmania and Conservative Prime Minister. His wife went on to become Australia's first female Minister in the Menzies government.

An interesting aside in the press this morning comparing Rudd and Abbott.Rudd is liked by those who have not met him and disliked by those who have.Abbott is liked by those who have met him and disliked by those who haven't.
PS-over at the ABC Annabel Crabb is now comparing Krudd to Princess Di for the same reason.

In the SYD Virgin lounge - Perth lounge not as bad as suggested by thewinchester when I visited this morning, although the entertainment could use some work... Sky news live coverage of a corridor in Canberra, with the delightful commentary of some lounge-visiting jackass having high-volume phone calls. I can now tell you every medication he is on, the names of at least 5 of his closest friends and the fact that multiple dirty looks failed to yield any behavioural change. At least there were pancakes - no pancake maker, but a staff member who noticed how rubbery the bain marie pancakes were and brought me some freshly made ones to my seat!

In Sydney, the entertainment is the Ultimate Fighting Championship - on tv, not a Luke Mangan Party pie fight :D The pies came to me, which may have improved my opinion of them. Now I need another NPPP to refresh my memory and compare... Next stop, Wagga, where I am hoping it won't flood!

Cue liamr cackling and thewinchester shaking his head.

My ux21 was returned today. Nice new motherboard and they replaced the touchpad for good measure.

Power it on and use for several hours. Reactivate windows. Its merrily charging away. Prob hits 90 - 100% or somewhere in between. Dead again.

Back to asus. Wonder what they will swap next (battery and charger i think. Probably motherboard again too.)

Soon it will be like the axe my father had for 60 years-still going strong and he only needed to replace the head twice and the handle four times!

Posted on a wing & a prayer

And another retailer bites the dust with news WOW is in administration, given the amount of junk they sold I am not surprised!

No, WOW as in WOW Sight and Sound, WOW Sight & Sound - Electronics Super-Store - Go WOW!

Ironically they are offering a gift card for rental deals on their web site and the administrator has already said gift cards are worthless.

Ah. I was reading it as the ASX code ;)

On another note, today has been the first good day since the whole saga started ; I can finally go to bed tonight in a somewhat relaxed state  :)

Yes QR, no power for all the city trains is an "operational issue"

I wonder if the govt will move in to legislate gift vouchers further - ie. Funds must be held in trust or similar.

You did better, the former is ROFLing.

Geez by that time they'd probably have to give you a new one, except it's not policy (save for the lemon rule). They've changed the MB and it's still going dead? They didn't check **** before they sent it to you....

At least hopefully since it's so close to when you got it back, it might be treated as a "recall service" and possibly get treated with a higher priority.

That's excellent! Hope you won't be feeling like a zombie for much longer.

If they do you can bet your bottom dollar on your last gift card that frequent flyer programs will be next (though they will be interesting in that I wonder if they will pull in international airlines' FFPs doing business in Australia). In fact, any frequent spender program (hotels, credit cards, shopping rewards, etc.)

The news is saying WOW isn't completely dead, though they are hanging on a fragile thread at the moment. They were really pounding hard on the doors of Harvey Norman and the like, how could they not survive is odd. Then again, it seems like the baton is being passed around - first Clive Peeters (taken over by Harvey Norman), then WOW........

Some hn franchises have closed recently. The entire industry is doing it tough. While i dont know the full wow details, writing off a $20mil debt from an associated company can't be good for the balance sheet.

I was in both those lounges yesterday! I'm assuming you caught the flight before mine (mine was 1130 dep from PER) because of the timing of your SYD lounge post. That fighting thing was still on the box at SYD when I got there (~1840) - those guys are insane.

I will say I was a little underwhelmed at PER lounge (unusual for me, I'm not normally too hard to please), but I think that mostly can be put down to my mood not being great due to:

a) having a can of deodorant (placed in tray alongside laptop) confiscated at security because it did not have a lid, even though that is how it is designed , then having to dig out a can of shaving cream from my bag for the same guy to triumphantly point out a little red sign which I read later - Flammable Gas 2 - which apparently means it is an aerosol. Something learned each day. This can was not confiscated.

b) And to cap it off, I wandered straight from security to the escalator, not even glancing left to spy the Lounge entrance, then spent 10 minutes searching upstairs end-to-end for the Lounge, only to have to ask a DJ staff member where it was.

But the subsequent flight was excellent, and cheered me up no end. :)

I may just be too on-topic here.

Having fun with seat allocation for my Aaward later in the year. For the SYD-BKK sector it was QF1 when I booked.Checked my seat yesterday and I was still allocated 24B which is obviously not a great J seat on a 330.With AA though had a limited choice of seats-rows 3,4 A,K.Unfortunately seats next to these already occupied so i cant sit next to mrsdrron.QFF confirmed that these were the seats allocated to AA.
Rang QFF and of course they couldn't help but had a weird experience.By accident left out 1 number of mrsdrron's QFF account. That however got me through to the platinum desk. The account was in the name of a fellow whose first name differed from mine by 1 letter and whose surname was a common variation of mine differing by 1 letter.I confessed my error and got into the right account. But talk about coincidences.Scary.
