Well that makes me feel better. I had the last meeting with the GM and the HR Director about my redundancy package. Despite not having any bargaining power at all, I told them that the package was light on, mainly due to all the flying I've done and the 12+ hour days (neglecting to mention that I flew forward most of the time coming home ). Anyway I asked for an extra 25K tax free. The HR Director started spluttering and said that he could not endorse this, to which I replied "that's why I'm not asking you". Anyway, within 5 minutes the GM rang back to say it was approved. She caved in so quickly I should have asked for more.
The benefits of knowing where the bodies are buried........
How are you supposed to get the $25k "tax free"? Are you just getting a big fat cheque?
Blinky you now have half of Australia wanting to take a redundancy! I started in March 1979 so after almost 34 years I am feeling like a dinosaur. I would miss the frequent flyer points the most rather than the cash.
Good luck with the next phase of your life...and may you live in interesting times......
As noted elsewhere I am now leaving CBR thanks to the redundancy fairy, second time in my 30+ year working life she has visited me with great gifts.
Whilst scarey at first it is a great time to decide what you really want to do for the next part of your working life, change a lot of stuff and get on with life. It truly is an example of what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
You do of course need to plan and be ruthless with various parts of your life. However, it does focus you on determining what really is important. In my view it is yourself first then family, friends and so on in greater circles surrounding you. Your work life is in their but it is not the most important thing.
You can always get another job, it may not pay as much, it may not be exactly what you want etc But it is always easier to move on than for your family to grieve your loss or for you to find new family and friends because you didn't focus on the most important things first.
Why yourself first? Well if you don't look after yourself then you cannot look after then next most important people in your life and so on.
Blinky, good luck with the next phase of your life. Take a breath, smell the flowers and enjoy. You now have the upper hand in your life.
I will miss the company paid flying, but can probably self-finance enough to keep reasonable status.
