Tony Greig had a boyish enthusiasm that will be hard to replace in the commentary box. Brilliant cricketer and a hugely entertaining commentator. In an age when we talk of the "great" characters in sport we have lost a truly great one. Tony Greig iignite my passion for cricket back in 1975 when he took over as England Captain.

A very sad day indeed.

Bill Lawry comes close to Tony. Both entertaining in their own ways.

I have no medical background whatsoever, but two friends of mine died from heart attacks while undergoing cancer treatment. No idea if it was related.

I'm only guessing from the close relationship of the heart and lungs. And mainly from my own medical conditions where a doctor told me lack of oxygen in my blood made my heart work harder and would give me an early heart attack. I've assumed lung cancer would also inhibit oxygen uptake plus of course the effects of any cancer treatment.

Oops sorry, a long winded way to say my guess is not based on medical knowledge either.

A thread for obituaries may be in order (to acknowledge the last journey).

For reference- cancers are generally pro-thrombotic which means they increase the chance of blood clots and the blood is 'thicker'.

Heart attacks are much more common in people who are likely to clot, so they are a common cause of cancer mortality.

The other night I dreamt my father had a heart attack... My father is 78, still smokes and drinks yet is still alive!

So he has 2 years to go and then he can stop worrying.
In the dubbo health study of those over 80 smoking is no longer a risk factor for vascular disease and the more you drink the longer you live.:)

It is due to survivor bias.
