I deserve a ripe old whack across the back of the head.... Just booked a JQ fare as I thought it would be cheapest with the boxing day sale only to find that the cost of QF was marginal! sigh.... The JQ times suit me better but geez I should I don't some research :(

C'est la vie.

I went to the test cricket yesterday, but am mighty glad I didn't buy a ticket for the whole five days.

Q. When do you know you are on the outer with your employer?

A. When they give you access to their corporate box on the 5th day ...

Can't admit to an invite to a Corporate Box, but have had several days in function rooms during AFL footy at the G. Three course meals with wine and beer, then a premium seat outside. The last two times, I stayed behind the glass and watch the game. I used to get pissed off at the high and mighty drinking champers in function rooms. I thought I'd enjoy the boot being on the other foot.

Agreed. Not everyone liked him as a commentator (I did), but if you watched the cricket on Ch 9 then he was a part of your summer for 30+ years.

He was easy to dislike, but he was almost like part of the family. At least to cricket lovers. I'm sadder than I thought I'd be.

Tony Greig will be remembered by a generation of cricket fans

Hope Channel 9 or Fox Sports will bring on a "Special" for the fans.

(Reminded me of Sydney talkback radio host, late John Pearce.)

I just found that it was a heart attack, and not related to the cancer. It's certainly not good to go at 66, but I'd rather a simple and sudden heart attack rather than a long, debilitating and futile battle with cancer.

Have the bast@rd barred from the broadcast area ;)

I recall that - the 12th Man - funny!

And in related news that is not sad like AW Greig's passing, but still a little surprising, is the just announced retirement of MEK Hussey from all international cricket as at the end of the Sydney Test. A good innings for a guy who debuted in tests around the age of 30.

I'm flabbergasted by Hussey's retirement. Unlike Ponting, he's playing better than ever, and it's not like anyone is breaking down the door to take his place. The Ashes campaign now gets harder.

Quite saddening news. He appeared down-to-earth and rather suave, in a way. Glad his family saw him through this Christmas. RIP.

There was a funeral director on the news here who said that once Christmas day was over then there was a lot of deaths. It is a very busy time for them.

I'd guess it was related to the lung cancer. :(
