I also hate people who will send an e mail and then if you don't reply with in a few minutes will follow up with a ph call to ask if you got the e mail and when do I expect the order to be delivered.
I have an old school professional colleague who by all accounts was very formal back in the day. He sent me the same email twice while I was on leave, a formal letter (correspondence!) about the format for the journal that I edit. I had the out of office turned on, of course. 10am on the nominated day of my return I got a 3rd email about to say (I paraphrase) 'I did not ask you to acknowledge receipt of my email, so it's my fault, but can you acknowledge that you received my previous correspondence.' what the out of office didn't give it away. It was like he'd been sitting there all Christmas waiting for me to reply.
