Many, many, many years ago, I once had a comb over conversation with a older man that I worked with. Back in the days when you could broach a subject without worrying if it was harassment.

He was much older, recently divorced and I said as nicely as I could that he needed to ditch the comb over as I was almost positive that his hair would look better trim and neat. And he went out and got a hair cut that weekend and yep, he looked much, much better. Got a few compliments from some of the other employees, again, back in the days you could give a compliment without first adding a disclaimer.

I also remember once catching a train and every time the doors opened, the guy in front of me hair would lift up like a platform and then float back down to his scalp. Drove me nuts.

I dont hate the man bun, its cute on most but once you reach a certain age, it has to go.

No man buns, no man pony tails and no man comb-overs either. Ron wont let me have a pair of scissors in my handbag - he knows what I would do with them !

So rat tails are ok? The people of my birth area will be happy ;)

When are you leaving Cossie? With the cold mornings here it's a good idea! (Actually we are leaving for Tokyo on 17 Jul) :)

I carry the "credit card" style equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife in my handbag. Those scissors have been used MANY times.

Tomorrow morning, we have shortened the trip though, just 11 days, basically 3 days in Nara, 3 in Kyoto and 3 in Tokyo, but first some time in Wakayama, in particular to go to Kishi. Saw a programme about it on NHK years ago and have been wanting to go there ever since. Can't wait to be away from the cold, especially the fog! 06:30 flight to Brisbane, hope we don't get fogged in!

Love Japan, need to go back... After Tasmania, Kangaroo Island, Scotland and either the US (Utah, grand canyon and Arizona) or Africa /safari.

Need more money....

Had no idea what you were talking about, then realised! Lot's of man buns in Europe, especially soccer players it seems, probably what drives the fashion. Years ago when renting a house in Red Hill, the landlord wore a rug, one of my house mates used to make a point of saying to him, 'we have come to pay the rent', ho hum.

In sad news, we have just been told that a former neighbour of my Mother's (when she was still alive) died on Sunday night following a fall and breaking her hip, she would have been 100 next month, so was in her hundreth year. :(

Echoing the fog hope but as it's a first flight out it should be OK (Fingers crossed). A bit like us - 11 days this time, just Tokyo, Takayama, Kanazawa and Hakone.
Love Nara. There is a lovely (well we liked it) art shop in Nara just near Isui-en Garden (in the small street that leads down from Todai-ji). All the articles are made by the artists in residence. Could have gone mad but they only took cash (perhaps fortuitously so I only bought one bowl). It is not listed on the map but is in the same street as the deer shop (something antiques - je and nous - the deer shop not the gallery) but I think a bit further away from the gardens. The garden next to Isui-en (Yoshi kien) is free for foreigners.

A line of discussion has been deleted.

Last time it started it descended into a slanging match.

Leave it alone. You know who you are!
