The Velocity Status Run Master thread

most cost-effective way to net 65 SC MEL-SYD return OR
most cost-effective way to net 35 SC ex-MEL
Presumably ex MEL - then look at MEL-SYD/CBR-OOL for about $290 in Freedom earning 50SC - get the rest coming back. (Or book in Business for $650 and earn 80 SC)

If you can travel on the 31st, you may be able to use a 10% discount code - but that would need to be booked today.

Hi, thanks serfty. I have tried playing around with the VA site and searching threads here but unfortunately I have to ask a stupid question - how do I book a connecting flight at that price? For example if I choose multi-city in the booking engine I'm basically paying for 2 flights so it's significantly more than $290 and all MEL-SYD options it gives me our direct.
Thanks again

Just search for MEL-OOL - the SYD/CBR connection options come up down the list.

Just book via Delta.com. The App is very good in playing with dates and origin/destinations. The sweet spot currently is the new A350 PE seats credit as Business and there is a fare war underway from the LA basin to PVG/PEK.

You can play around with the multi trip function and nab an overnight on one of the domestic connection if you don’t fancy the long slog.

I’ve booked a Burbank-Vegas-LAX-PVG-LAX-Vegas-Burbank next March. What also works for me is I’ll nab nearly 60k in points which I’ll put towards fares I was going to buy anyway in cash, saving myself $700/$800. Plus I can maintain Platinum. It’s a win win for me.

Thanks for that ... I'm not looking to travel so until June and the costs increase.

Still better $/SC earn though than most Oz options; will wait and see if may dates get better.

It's good to note though, visit the states in the off peak months for pure Status runs lol.

Any thoughts on the cheapest way to net 4 eligible sectors ex-BNE?
Use your Go card to get to OOL then fly OOL-xSYD/CBR-MEL return for about $280; that will earn 20 SC and 4 eligible segments.

Do the same in Flexi for about $550 and earn 100 SC.

Jolly good, I'll give that a go. Great suggestion.

@serfty Curious on your opinion on cheapest way to get 8 eligible sectors from Melbourne? I'm doing a status run next year through delta so I'll need 8 eligible sectors with VA.

4 gateway return flights (MEL/ADl or MEL/SYD) =$792 at (The only routes that make sense for to visit family and friends)

2 Elevate return flights (MEL/OOL) = $763 (3x the SC each leg and 2x the VA points) [Looking like the winner]. Trying to hack together 2 stop flights like MEL CNS but they're fairly expensive, despite being 3 leg flights.

I don't mind spending a long day flying, staying overnight somewhere and then taking a long joyride home the next day. I appreciate any advice :)

Hey serfty, just wondering what dates you found these flights ex-BNE/OOL. Have plenty of status credits, but need three eligible sectors!

Not ex BNE ... OOL-xx_X-MEL are cheaper.

These are generally available some months out - perhaps closer in but really you need to pre-plan more than 21 days out.

Forget the friends, two MEL-SYD/CBR-OOL round trips in getaway will cost from $550 and earn those eight eligible segments, 40/56 SC's and 3000+ Velocity.

You will need to look hard for those $135 one way options, there are plenty of $160 around.

Hope this is the right area to post this. I need to earn 35 SC on a domestic run before 31 Dec. The only catch is it has to be using the cheapest fare bucket with Virgin because of work travel policy (they have a system in place that won't let you select a higher class fare if a lower one is available). I'm in Melbourne and don't mind travelling interstate for the day - whatever it takes

What status level are you chasing?

Gold Coast via SYD/CBR can earn 28 SC return soon if not already.
