The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Fine, not loopholes, but status runs. Obviously from the above posts some of them have been shut down pretty soon after they've been posted. Has that stopped?

For now i think it's almost impossible to tell -- fares (and point requirments) are jumping around all over the place while they bed down the new system. I'd wait until the system is a little more stable before trying to guess either way.

I see availability in the ones I've looked at, but others have reported availability being limited (by exhaustion of availability rather than closure AFAIK).

my 2 cents

Long time lurker here. I don't have any post history, but this thread has motivated me to speak out. Every single status run mentioned in this thread has been shutdown pretty quickly. I found a nice run last week (140SC J fare and 13,800) - I was 619 points short doing the booking (there were some positioning flights involved that too). I had a bit of bad luck, within minutes of that route being hinted at in this thread, it was gone. Of course some points I had been waiting on hit my velocity account about an hour later.

thankfully, I've found another SC run that is acceptable (although nowhere near as good, hopefully it will last).

there is zero doubt in my mind that VA are monitoring this thread and taking action on anything that is mentioned here.

I am 160 SC short of Platinum with VA (all earned "the hard way" in Y). So i'm pretty miffed with VA the behaviour in this regard.

I guess their is an upside, I'm now more motivated to get to some of the social meets and discuss these things with other "AFFers" in person (once one has confirmed they wont blab to the airlines and ruin it for everyone).

bit of a shame really.

(Later edit: not a shame about meeting other AFFers, a shame about the cloak and dagger antics, lol)

Welcome zimocca. Keep an eye on the various meeting threads to see when there is one near you.

Many thanks to those who have set up and contributed to this thread and the spreadsheet. Fantastic work :D From my perspective I do think the Velocity booking engine is a little temperamental but looking over the last day or so most if not all of the value for money/ points Reward flight options are still available.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the booking engine will take some chill pills soon ;)

Nearly forgot : Welcome zimocca

Agreed. Couldn't get any flights yesterday but today most are avail. Take advantage while can :-)

I really do thing what we actually see is exhaustion of (a very limited) supply due to it being highlighted. Perhaps some genuine mistake routes/fares are removed if they are notices being posted here but I'm guessing they'd get picked up somehow anyways. For me the spreadsheet is more just a great way to keep the SR info in a contiguous easy to access and maintain place.

Amen to that! What VA do or don't do is not really the issue. AFFers being able to easily see the, er, benificial runs, will win out in the end. VA hasn't got the capability to be eyes and ears on all things, but AFF does and to be honest, most flyers couldn't give a rats.

Congrats to all the spreadsheet gurus. If we all just use, rather than abuse, all will be good!

All that said, I'm doing an A15 tomorrow and hope to to an A8&A9 soon ;)

I have enough points to do an A7 or similar, and have already booked two flights similar to A3 (partner + me in a few weeks time, family pooling).

Should I be using them to boost SC's now - just in case deals with SC yields like A7 get taken down? Or save the points?

(I guess I'm asking "How good are these deals, really?" and "How likely is it that they will be taken down?")

FWIW, I'm on track to hit WP by May for the first time (6 months of SC's), so hitting or retaining SC tiers shouldn't be an issue.

If you have enough SC to gain WP I would suggest hanging on to the points for later incase you need them to retain WP.

As to the value of the deals, given the speed in which the published ones have disappeared seems to indicate good value.

They must have notifications on over there. Looks liked it's fixed now. Hmmmm......
