The Velocity Status Run Master thread

The filter drop downs are now on Row A instead of Row B too... not sure how to fix... anyone?

Do you mean they are on Row 1, which is the "Warning" heading, and they should be on Row 2, the real Column Headings?

It seems the "Filter Data" option, which we are using from the Data menu automatically assumes that your column headings are in Row 1. My recommendation would be remove the "warning" heading, as much as it does really need to be there to remind people. Whether it is there or not, people will still manage to mess it up.

Hey,

I know I am new'ish to this site, but could I get access to the Spread Sheet for a look?

Thanks in advance...

PS.. I don't think I can PM yet..

We have some updates to the SS... In the VA 'Points Run' sheet I've added a couple of new columns to reflect the true value of points/SC by accounting for the cost or value of the points that you each personally hold. I've started this off at 2 cents per point, but this is just a start and anyone can change the value to whatever thye like according to their circumstances. But in the interest of consistency to measure a standard set of result, I'd like to see if we can collectively agree upon a number. I've also incorporated the co-pay into the equation. Produces some very interesting results in direct contrast to the current 'sorted' value system.

At the moment if you look at the T&Cs for the check-in online to win 100,000 points promo Point 10 says 100,000 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points valued at up to AU$2,732.
So it seems VA themselves value one velocity point having a maximum value of 2.732 cents

I think I read somewhere that they have to place a $ value on competition prizes by law. The prize is 100 000 points which if people can wrangle a higher value, so be it. Good luck to them (or me if I win)!

Ok, I just found the other thread with the instructions f how to access the spread sheet.. Sorry guys, I am learning..

because of the way that virgin seems to charge per segment its hard to find a lot of value in their business class sale - best I could see was melbourne-adelaide-gold coast. Not awesome value but a fun way to spend a morning :)

Was just looking at some of the records in the spread sheet, and I wanted to clarify something in regard to the records listed in sheet "A: VA Points Run". Are these Any Seat Award (ASA) seats or just plain Reward Seats? I was under the impression that this sheet was documenting Any Seat Awards only, which, as we know now earn Status Credits and Points, whereas Reward Seats will only earn Status Credits under the current promotion, which expires 30 June 2013. If the sheet lists the latter - Reward Seats, then many will become redundant post-30 June. Is this what this sheet lists? Perhaps we should add a column which indicates whether it is an ASA or Reward booking.

This would explain previous comments I made in the sheet about availability of A9 and A10 (which I've since removed). As an ASA, they have "corrected" the error, whereas the current record shows what is possible (and available) as a Reward seat booking.

Just plain Reward seats until June 30th.

I don't expect the SC yield will be anything to write home about after June 30th though...

Re: Need 4 DJ sectors and 130 SCs by Sept 1

Hi everyone,

Very new to this so any help greatly appreciated! I have just made the move from Qantas to Virgin as my new company only flies with Virgin; I need to start accruing status credist all over again!! I am approaching Silver quite quickly but am after a good run to get me the next 250 for Gold. I have had a little look but have been unable to find any flights that work out under about $9 per status credit. I am based in Sydney with availablity after work and weekends; thanks for any assistance. :)

Welcome to AFF, SYD OOL is often well below $9 per SC , from OOL you can sometimes find good value or just spend the weekend warming up as Sydney starts to get cold.

Re: Need 4 DJ sectors and 130 SCs by Sept 1

Hoping for some help here.
I didn't think I was going to requalify for gold, but with the SC earning on reward flights, I am now 'only' 160 SCs away from requalifying. I have only one flight booked from now until my current status runs out in late July. That flight is MEL-ADL-MEL in Y, which will give me 20 SCs.
So I need 140 SCs to get there. Anyone know of the most cost effective and convenient way of getting there?
I have about 27,000 Velocity points and about 3000 Amex points that I can transfer and am happy to use them given that award flights earn SCs until 30 June.
