The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Quick question, which I'm not sure if it belongs in this thread or not, but...

How long do Virgin have to cancel a booking that is a too good to be true deal? Do they do it quickly, ie within a week, or can they do it at any time. I booked an awesome flight a month ago, and want to start planning the holiday, but don't want to get my hopes up until I'm sure I've actually go the flights. It's confirmed and seats picked, but I don't think that means anything these days.

If your " too good to be true deal" is ticketed & confirmation received that you are generally ok , barring any operational change . If you are referring to , lets call it a "Sabre Implementation Deal ", then quite a few AFF'ers have already travelled & appears the VA is honouring all "deals" , so i would say you would be ok to move forward with your planning .

Life should not in the way of replying to PM's.....:)

Working my way through a bit of a backlog, life and work happens sometime... I've given up on trying to reply to all PMs as there's just too many and there are restrictions on the frequency of PMs sent which make it too hard to fit into the short windows I have to do the approvals.

Unfortunately I've had to delete any requests which didn't supply an email and as stated earlier Hotmail addresses (and presumably others) do not work. I'm also considering easing the post count/length of membership criteria as again this is a bit of a time overhead I can't afford at the moment and since all the really juicy deals appear to be gone it seems low risk - unless there's objections?

To reiterate somewhat the application process... your best bet to getting access is:-
PM with a Google friendly email address
Don't send multiple PM please, the inbox space is finite and it adds more work for me.
Don't send read requests. Again it's additional clicking for me and I always cancel them as I find them a bit intrusive (and pointless since it's cancel-able).

Cheers,

I'm not too sure on that. I don't want to sound elitist (but hey, we're all a little elitist on this forum, aren't we? :P) ... however, I already think it's reached a point where too many people have access. Last l looked, the number was hovering around 250! No doubt there are airline lurkers. If there's a way to monitor how often users are active, I'd suggest booting those who aren't active for X period of time (ie, one month, three months).

If you need help in managing it I bet a few people would put their hands up.

I'd be in favour of a 'gold member' type arrangement. That way you're supporting (financially at very least) the site that's helping you so much.

I don't think Gold membership of AFF is an unreasonable price to pay for access. Just my 2c.

I like the concept, however the spreadsheet is something not developed by or affiliated with AFF in any way. The only things common between the two are the members.

A good idea I think... however I'm only a silver member.. ;)

Agreed. Admin would obviously have to consent to such an arrangement with a disclaimer that the resource is not provided, managed or endorsed by AFF directly. I'm sure if it was made clear it was a benefit offered by a third party as a part of the Gold benefits, it could be arranged.

Well that would be a good reason to upgrade to Gold then ;)

Although there are a number of tabs in the spreadsheet I do think interest is going to wane significantly come July 1st! It's probably a little late to think about dramatically changing the rules for access.

VA doesn't operate the same as QF, and most of the data in the spreadsheet is VA ;)

Edit: forgot about the rewards promo!

I agree - we're heading into the last 6 weeks of the SC for Reward Seats offer which we have been enjoying all year and I think the vast majority of users of the spreadsheet would have already booked their necessary SRs.

I doubt I will look at it post June 30 at all...

Has anyone asked Velocity Frequent Flyer whether they have seen or have access (thru whatever means) to the spreadsheet? Future PM access may well be a moot point.

Ok, just zeroed out my VA account with a little help from the spreadsheet plus the SC on reward seats promo :)
Spent approx 95K Velocity points and ~$140 fees and charges. Will net 420 SC. Not the best but I need to go to the destination anyway, its all J travel and I won't need to pack my passport :D

I can say with a high level of certainty (100%) that VA staff have indeed seen the sheet.

Whether they monitor it or the people there that may "care" about its content view it, I do not know.
