Re: Need 4 DJ sectors and 130 SCs by Sept 1

Now that the Reward SCs offer is over there's not too many options for a run :/

Hi Lobo, thanks for helping me out a while back. I am now SG :)

I took two flexi fares CNS-BNE and BNE-MEL last week, and upgraded the CNS-BNE leg to J class using points.

It should have netted me 30 + 30 = 60SCs as the promotion was over, but it was a pleasant surprise to find out I still got the bonus SCs from upgrading to J, so in total I got 60 + 30 = 90SCs.

FYI, my upgraded booking class was to Z and the flight was taken in July.

Maybe I got lucky but hopefully some other AFFers will get it too.

Congrats. Interesting find regarding the upgrade SCs....

Was it a lounge upgrade ?

This may or may not have happened to me too. Coast-to-coast.

Re: Need 4 DJ sectors and 130 SCs by Sept 1

Hi guys, I haven't got the requisite number of posts to access the s/s, and need 100 SCs to get to SG before October. I'm currently located in SYD but moving back to PER next month.

My questions are: 1/ are there generally more options for SC runs from SYD than PER? 2/ does anyone have suggestions for SC run for 100 SCs from SYD? 2/ does anyone have suggestions for runs from PER for 2 pax as my partner has Family Pooling sending her points + SC to me :)

Thanks in advance!
David.

As points/SCs are no longer offered for award seats I would suggest looking for the cheapest bang/buck flights. A couple of flexi SYD-OOL ret will get you 80 and one flight to PER will do the rest.

Sorry to be a bother but I don't have the required posts for a PM to lobo re: the spreadsheet so if you read this... this is that request ha. :)

I know with recent emails (including one while awaiting my SG status review), VA were suggesting SYD - MEL (and I think SYD - OOL) to people.

If you fly J from SYD to either CBR, MEL, OOL, BNE or ADL, that can speed up the process. It just depends on if you get a sale, how much you are prepared to spend & how much you value your time.

I have noticed that it seems to be cheaper to fly SYD - OOL than SYD - BNE & the earn SC wise would be the same.

Just this morning, I read somewhere on here suggesting status runs etc out of PER is more difficult.

There's also the AFF mantra "why fly direct when you can connect" mantra to consider.

OOL is my home port, lots of good runs out of here! OOL - MEL xSYD is a winner, 40 SC's on a flexi and just over $200. OOL - PER xMEL and v.v is also a winner 70 SC's on a flexi and $398 r thereabouts. Use points to upgrade to J and enjoy!

I'm looking to bump my status up to gold in the next 4 weeks in time for a flight to the US.
I've already done the required sectors, but I only have 130SC.

The best status run I can find is Newcastle to Darwin via Melbourne and Brisbane. I've got enough points to book this one way on business and can do flexi on the way back.
Do you still get the SC if you are booking a business flight with points? And are there any better routes that people have found? I've spent the last couple of days looking for flights in oct/nov and can't find anything better.

The other option I've found is to go to LA on Singapore Air on a flexi fare, via Singapore and Tokyo. A return trip should net 400 SC if you count each sector. Any reason why this wouldn't work?

What benefit of Gold membership do you have in mind that is worth the cost of this status run??? Or you would be flying to LAX anyway and just taking a different routing? If you flew SQ12 SIN-NRT-LAX I suspect you would not be earning status credits per sector...you'd get 100 SCs for SIN-LAX rather than 140 SCs for SIN-NRT-LAX - you'd need to have different flight numbers for SIN-NRT and NRT-LAX to earn 140SCs.

I'm flying to LAX anyway, want to be able to upgrade international flights using points and get into the lounge.

So i am currently just red have 130SC's and will be doing a trip over xmas/new year with singapore air, econ (H).
Route is:
Bris to singapore: 60SC
Sing to Hanoi: 30SC
Ho Chi Min to Sing: 20SC
Sing to Bris: 60SC

Can someone tell me if this is correct if calculated per sector? this will put me at 300SC total
Now I am not a freq flyer by any means, most of my points are from work travel (single project) and work generally book savers which makes it hard to keep the SC's ticking over.
I only travel OS generally once a year, and domestic once or twice. If i make some status runs for gold, would I really see any benifit? as i think i would only hold it for one year and then lose it. If you lose it do you drop back to nothing? or do they put you back onto silver for the next year?
I currently have 33.5k of points and should get another 10k with this trip coming up and around another 7k worth of CC points which i can convert to FF

Your calculations look correct. Gold has substantial benefits over Silver - lounge access, fly ahead etc...the question is how often will you use them.

Your points will not really be of any use for status runs as that promo finished a long time ago.

I'm flying VA to LAX & then I'm doing this trip in reverse LAX - NRT - SIN on SQ11 with a week in Japan & SIN. Then I'm on another SQ flight number SIN - SYD.

It worked out cheaper for me to get a Circle Pacific fare at the time rather than direct SYD - LAX - SYD.

A VA weakness for me is no direct flights (VA metal or partner codeshare) Australia - Japan.

So true..... So tempting to go direct with Jet*, but then I rethink that and realise I don't want to fly the Orange Cancer with no status.... Or nothing really for that matter, besides one very small seat in Y :?
