The Velocity Status Run Master thread

hi all

I'm gathering this is the thread to actually discuss the best SC runs with Virgin ?

bering a complete novice in the VirginLand, I'm attracted by their J fares being that much cheaper than QF (Syd-Mel VA $349 (less 7% with a promo code) v $763/$981 (no promo code?)) and their SC system VA 55 v QF 40 so definitely less credits to earn and retain annual status ...(Gold Membership)

that said, should I take on the Status Match challenge, its 80 SCs to get 15 months of fun in the VirginLand - from what I can see that's a spend of about $650 - seems a pretty reasonable proposition

BNE-MEL will get you 80SC for less outlay than $650 (probably $500; haven't looked at that flight's cost in a while)

Looking for 80 SCs ex-SYD now I got the discover Gold... hmm Byron at $299 each way in J seems to be the best option.

I just flew my first double SC flights and was pleasantly surprised to find I've almost requalified SG - only 10 SCs short. Have until Feb to go.
Interestingly Mrs Warks flew with me this time on points and her SCs were pooled to me automatically. The pooling wasn't a surprise, the fact she earned SCs for an award flight was. So I earned a bumper crop for SYD-BNE-TSV rtn. 190 SCs.

Hi, apologies, searched a few options in this thread but also after some advice.

We've been Qantas flyers for ages, but due to a BC flight on Etihad, sitting with 864 SC on Virgin, with zero sectors.

We're planning a Japan trip next year and are looking at how best to utilise 400k points and 864 SC.

My thoughts are getting to platinum for as little as possible (136 SC and 8 sectors). Can anyone suggest to "cheapest" way to do this. Actually have some free time so flying and the hassle isn't a factor. Based in Melbourne.

Probably MEL-SYD-MCY return, do it 2 times for total 8 sectors

Thank you, that's super helpful. Ideally, I need to do that once (6 sectors) and then a simple return to maybe Sydney? to get me 8?

Also, confirming it says some Choice fares are not counted, how do you know which ones and see the class of the fare prior to paying?

It's 4 sectors (flights) for the return trip

Hi guys,
Long time lurker. Am currently gold and after this weekend will need 75 SC by Oct 31 to reach platinum. Any tips on the easiest and most cost effective way to achieve this. (I have no trips planned into this period so will likely need to do a status run)

MEL-OOL/BNE/MCY in J, whatever's cheapest (80sc) and pay or points the cheapest way back (or vv)

Any recommendations for attaining 20 SCs from PER? Nothing jumps out, so I might do a weekend to the East Coast, with a reward flight for one of the legs

Intrastate flights all look pretty expensive

KGI. You could flexi one way and train the other for something different.

Definitely considered that, but most flex fares look to be $545. Pity I can't grab a $349 J fare that they have on the East Coast.

Thanks for the suggestion!
