The view from my "office"

A bit more on my Freycinet day. Friends and I took a Pennicott Wilderness Adventure rise - "Wineglass Bay Cruise". I had a place at Coles Bay at Freycinet peninsula for about 20 years but never went to the seaward side of the peninsula, except walks to the famous Wineglass Bay beach. We bought these tickets 'cheaply' when Pennicott offered discounted vouchers during the covid time.

Pennicott runs a number of boat/fast boat tours in Tas and I'd recommend them. They have 19 busses and 17 boats!! Busses for picking pax up when the ride doesn't finish where it starts.

For this day trip Coles Bay - Wineglass Bay - Coles Bay we chose the 'upper deck';, about $250/ea discounted. Downstairs is standard seating in rows. Pics of the upper deck (newly refurbished in sassafras and Huon pine!) and the boat here.

The wines were exceptional - top quality Tasmanians, most from the east, such as Gala, The Bend, Spring Vale and Milton. I think about 10 choices in all.

We were hoping to see some whales - but didn't. Lots of seals though. "Aren't I beautiful? Take my picture"

Our captain today was no less than the business' founder and I think, owner, Rob Pennicott :)

We've had a lot of rain recently, and one of the unexpected highlights of this cruise was the numerous waterfalls draining to sea-side, in an otherwise bone dry environment

Lunch at anchor at Wineglass was a selection of Tasmanian cold-cuts and cheeses. Plus some fresh oysters not shown

Lastly, that sassafras again, and the Huon Pine bar counter-top (and some happy campers)

We are docked in Donji Milanova to pick up guests who did the excursion to an ancient village. From the river it is enclosed in a glasshouse to prevent erosion. Note the road built through solid rock. You need to zoom in on the second photo.

We have passed several coves with holiday town houses. Evidently this area of Romania experiences a lot of weekend getaways.

The spectacular part of the “Iron Gate” is ahead with a double loch.

Off to look at another Cosworth Sapphire in the ‘gong this morning, Dark and raining, hit this, 2 inch gash in front tyre, rim probably bent as well. Of course my Euro spec car carries a can of stuff and a 12v compressor, no spare. sigh.
Rose Cottage, near Monaro Highway, south Canberra.

Came back and took some photos. Pot holes are an issue, but the guvment has had cheap quick fixes in place for quite some time, got to pay for that bleedin’ tram somehow.

We have just finished our road trip to Newcastle, Sydney orange and Tamworth. A lot of NSW roads are in shocking condition after all the road with large numbers of potholes and many quite deep. A lot worse than QLD roads. We noticed the same as the pothole picture above that the bitumen layer is a lot thinner in NSW compared to QLD.

There have been issues here for a while, but always bandaid solutions. The rain has had a terrible effect on the roads. As you say, the bitumen layer seems to be thinner that before, once the waterproof layer is broken, it degrades very quickly.

Judging by the amount of spoil along the road that commences at the pothole, it must be 3 feet deep!
