Unplanned diversion. Abu Simbel . Add it to the List.
You are doing all the things we had booked for December 2021.
Unplanned diversion. Abu Simbel . Add it to the List.
One of the first excursions I booked on our Nile cruise.Unplanned? . Surely a planned must-do when in Aswan?
Will elaborate more on the TR, but I missed it as an option before the trip (it wasn't proactively offered by Intrepid). No probs getting on, but due to cruise schedule, a hellava scramble. 5am car to the airport ( big traffic delay contingency built in!!) , 45 min flight (30 mins late), 2 hrs at site, back to airport, back to Aswan ( 30 mins late) & cruise departed Aswan 1 hr after we got back.Unplanned? . Funnily enough of our 12, only 1 pax pre booked it and only I added it on. US$380.
Next year Intrepid are extending the whole tour by a day to better accommodate Abu Simbel. They should also extend it by another day to do Luxor a bit better.
You can also do it by driving, but very OMG o'clock start, with a 3.5 hr drive in convoy to Abu Simbel, (security) and same back.
Someone said that this particular tour is new, and it looks like they haven't got the bugs ironed out yet. I checked the original schedule yesterday and it quotes the Abu Simbel price as US$645 !!! The lady who pre booked it says she paid that and Intrepid is looking into it. Looks like they charged US$ rather than A$ .Interesting. I also went with Intrepid and it was clearly included (or may have been an additional cost item, but everyone in the group did it.)
Ours nearly came to grief when the EgyptAir bird went tech with us sitting at the airport. We had to abort and the only option was a sparrow's start the next day to go by land transport. A long day but well worth it.
Off on our first trip overseas for three years, (Singapore). Not sure I am match fit as I kept waking up last night remembering things!View attachment 307951
